  • Quality issues

A much anticipated delivery arrived today.

At first glance, everything seems fine. When looking closer, it looks different.

I've been reading about GL quality issues a few times, also on other boards. So far I've been lucky, this time I'm a little disappointed.

Paint imperfections on the Torino. At first I thought it was just some dust. Not a big deal.

The Plymouth is bad. Improper chroming and a damaged tampo. Aren't these models considered as malaise era cars? Too bad GL copied it into model making.

Quality issues with Greenlight are nothing new, sadly. Sorry to hear you're experiencing them on what look to be two great models.
I think the most glaring quality issue I've experienced is a Silverado model that is missing a headlight (and it wasn't even in the package as well).

Either it's overexpansion or maybe they are trying to produce them at a pretty low price, maybe the retail price should be raised slightly.

I noticed Hobby Lobby raised prices a little on GL, but they are my only source a retail, and they usually gauge the customer unless you buy just one item and use the coupon. I agree with 6A that it is possibly overexpansion considering the lspeed at which they release new models, and the age-old challenge to keep the price affordable. Maybe I'm not paying too close attention to my new Greenlight models, but I've not had many quality issues. Ones that I have had I decided to contact the company, and they have sent out a replacement if they have it still in the warehouse.

Tyrolese, I'd contact Greenlight about this. I wouldn't be surprised if they would send you replacements, even to Austria. You're relatively well-known on the 1/64 message boards so you're not a casual collector.

And HAH, loved the comment about copying the malaise era workmanship! GL's next 2020 new model announcement is rumored to be a Dodge Aspen on one side and a Plymouth Volare on the other.

I am a big fan of cars from the 70´s and 80´s, so i hope they will be many more in the future.
My GL collection is humble with approx 30 pieces and as mentioned, so far i´ve been lucky and received the quality expected for the price. I have some more items on pre order at a die cast store from Holland and hope they will be fine.
If not, i will be thinking about contacting GL. .

I like that era too (as well as the 1960s), and one gem coming next year is the 1971 to 1976 AMC Matador sedan, if you didn't already know. I don't think complaining is necessarily a bad thing because it gives GL the opportunity to make the customer happy / possibly improve their production. If collectors stop buying without any notice, they will not have any idea where they went wrong. I think GL actually WANTS to know about any problems. I stopped buying M2 Machines because I complained about issues, and they ignored me completely.

That sure stinks... We have all ran across the same deal. I got got VP Challenger and the wheels were not chromed right. I wrote to GL and they sent me a perfect set. That took care of that. There are other problems that I accepted or fixed myself from GL, AW and JL. Just like everything made and sold today, make it faster, make it cheaper, charge more for it, and to **** with the quality. I got totally fed up with M2, I don't even look at them anymore, let alone buy any!!!

I got four GL's earlier this month and they all are very nice. One of them is the orange Fury taxi and my decals (tampos?) are perfect. The only flaw is that the roof sign is slightly misaligned. It's the best Fury/Coronet that I got to date. As before, the side glass looks odd and this release has the serial number on white paper labels but not a quality issue. I also received the 70 Cougar (lt Blue) which is a s nice as an AW Cougar.

I bought the Checker cab recently, amazing model. Unfortunately, there was a slip of the silver paint on the rear fender. Not noticeable at first. Bought a second one, it was perfect.

Those flaws are quite disturbing at high magnification. I'm about ready to order this pair myself- hope I get a better batch than you got stuck with.

One time I had an LTD wagon with its face chopped off. I contacted the online seller and they provided me a partial refund. The chopped front was easy to fix with an adhesive.

Greenlight did have a problem with the front piece (grill and bumper) on some of its LTD station wagons that were released this year.
This piece was separate and attached to front of the casting.
By changing this specific piece, Greenlight could make different years of Ford LTDs or Mercury Colony Park vehicles from the main body casting.
On some of the castings, the front piece was not attached (glued on) properly.
I bought a bunch of them and found the same problem on a couple.
                        The fix was easy.

Greenlight seems to go through periods of time where there are paint issues in particular.

My biggest complaint, is the installation of tires on the wheels
How many times will you find the tires NOT completely installed on the wheels.
And then you have mis-shaped tires.
This is very noticeable with white wall tires.
Greenlight should devote more attention to this detail in quality control at the factory.

                        Cheers. Cobra

Nobody is perfect, but the quality on the Plymouth is completely unacceptable.

I am aware, that the world has currently much more serious issues then me complaining about GL quality again.

But since we are still collectors, and the hobby is a bit of a safe harbor in rough times, I still want to share my latest experience and I secretly hope a GL employee is peeking....

Received 3 models and the two highly anticipated Chevy's both don't roll at all. Rear tires are stuck. If I apply some pressure, the CHP Caprice tires turn a little bit.
OK, they are display pieces but I still want my cars to roll freely.
Next problem is the front piece of the Ford wagon which is interchangeable if I'm not mistaken. The paint job on this piece is simply dilettantish and the color doesn't even match with the rest of the car.
I could do a better job with a paint brush

All in all, a big disappointment again.

I would agree - the front mismatched finish on the taxi is terrible and no excuse for that with the price of GL models. I know at one time they and M2 both had representatives on some of the diecast boards but don't think that has been the case for quite some time. I would think having some "listen" in and be a source for them would be helpful with, not only quality control issues, but also model suggestions and ideas from collectors.
