  • Mixed Bag (24 beaters)

Recent finds. Kind of a mixed bag. Actually some new color variations, and a number of them are in decent shape. Some Matchbox and Hot Wheels, but opened the topic here since there are some generic "Made in China", Motor Max, Maisto, Yatming, etc. Just getting around to cataloging them. Will post questions here as I get further into it.

First question for the collective brain. What is this black one? I saw the real car this summer on Hagerty, or some page like that, but can't remember what it was. Always thought it was just a fantasy car, but it was actually built. Having trouble figuring out what to put into the search engine. I think it looks like a late 1970s Pontiac.

First shot: Overview (literally) of the new haul-fest. Matchbox, Hot Wheels, a few generic "Made in China", Motor Max, Maisto, Yatming, etc.

Questions to follow as the cataloging process commences. Comments are welcomed.

Random comment: I like the "3-Window '34" Hot Wheels in the front row. Tires make it look realistic.

      What is this black one?
Stutz Blackhawk. Last one I saw in real life was along the coast of Central California back in the mid-1990s. Grandson I think of the guy that made the Stutz Bearcat way back in the 19teens.

I like the "3-Window '34" Hot Wheels in the front row. Tires make it look realistic.

Early real riders (*real* Real Riders), and with white hubs...typical are gray hubs, and this model is also found with basic wheels. Does it have the lift function to raise the rear? (High Rakers)

Yellow Tbird is in tolerable shape, darn near impossible to find undamaged tampos, that looks like early on with no portholes. First issue was white with portholes and the same tampo treatment. Scuttlebutt is the portholes caused casting issues, so they were done away with after a few runs. I want to say the first run of yellow had portholes, and later runs filled the portholes as yours shows. Still in overall decent shape for an early 'bird.

The Police Bus is an interesting variant of the Mbx School Bus.

What is the red car, second row, third from the right?
The image file limits have been reset. Upper limits now are 100,000 when we have some images that exceed 5,000,000. I've set the pixels for no more than 1000 across the longest side, so if you resize to that all should be well. (The limits are larger than what I typically use, and my images turn out just fine, so I know it shouldn't be a problem)

      Thank you for your understanding.

Wow - thanks on the Stutz Blackhawk. Never would have got that one. And, yes indeed, the lift function is there on the Ford coupe. Didn't notice it before. Pretty interesting. Thank you!

Yeah, the T-Bird does not have the porthole (obviously). Oh well. Still, that color scheme was new to me. Have a metallic red one, and a turquoise one in the Gulf livery.

Need more info. on these please:
            • Yatming - Ford C-series truck - what came with it - a trailer of some type?
            • Zyll - truck (yellow w/ chrome grille) - what came with it - probably a box container truck? What type of truck is it? Presuming it's Japanese.
            • Unknown brand (made in China) - Hino crane - who made it, and what was at the end of the boom? Is it in fact a Hino? Kinda looks like it.
            • Unknown brand (made in China) - Mercedes police car - who made it? Any ideas?

Lots of goodies here and some beaters in good condition.
Stütz in black is looking good.
Imagine if Autoworld or Greenlight would make a Stütz.....

I was so focused on the Stutz Blackhawk answer that I only just noticed your other comments. Sorry for the delay.

In any event, cool that the T-Bird is early and the tampos were intact. As I said further up the page, I have a couple variations of this casting, but I'm guessing others have far more. Will include the porthole backstory to the DB description.

Cataloging them last night, many appeared to be in tolerable condition, but also found one or two cheaply made Matchbox. Maybe there is no longer an emphasis on running these down a track, so weight is not as important, but come on. Likely due to a serious cost reduction phase. Thankfully, new releases seem a bit more substantial.

Yes, the school bus variation was interesting. Charlie Mack (3rd edition) lists 56 different variations, but the police version is the only one with a blue body. I was chuffed to get it - even if not in the best condition.

The red (or magenta, or metallic purple) car in the second row, third from the right is the Matchbox Ford Capri (1971). I have seen this many times over the years, but realized it was the first one in the collection. Has opening bonnet and chrome engine.

Zyll truck is Toyota Dyna. There's many different things that could have been on it. I've seen garbage truck, tow truck, flatbed with and without canvas top.

Hino crane. I'm thinking of Faie or Welly. Pic of the base might help.

Mercedes is most likely a Welly.

Thanks. Here are the bases of the Hino crane and Mercedes police car.

Perhaps the Zylmex Toyota Dyna was the Stake Bed Truck:

                            Yes, Mercedes is Welly.
I can't say anything conclusive about Hino.
