  • Creating a Diorama titled 'Barn Find' ...

So, I got the idea to create a 'Barn Find' diorama. And started working on a barn. Well, that turned out to become a log cabin some how, so when I finally finish this building, I will need to build either a barn next to it, or some extension to it,with a model car under it. So, basically, this one is currently off-topic...

    Ground floor done...

Yes, even a stair case and a fire place - both will be hidden from view like completely, in the end...

    Starting work on the roof.

And next, I kinda lost it, as I suddenly wanted shingles on the roof! 5mm x 5mm size, some 500 of them, per side.

Oh, and for sure, a chimney!

(The ones looking closely will have spotted the obvious error, maybe, as the fireplace is in the left section and the chimney on the right! Oh well)

This is as far as I got now, it may need a porch, siding on the walls - oh, my, the logs will be invisible then. And some place for the extension for the 'find' itself...
So many hours put in already, feel like I got many more to go, and unsure still where to go now, how to proceed - once the chimney's done that is!

    Have Fun!

Edit: Here's a link to a picture I used as 'inspiration'..

And here most of us going searching for those old barns and houses and you go and build one - incredible and well detailed - especially with all of those little shingles! Well done!

Wow, can't imagine the time you have into that already, especially cutting all those hundreds of shingles, and applying them. Amazing work !

Excellent work. When I first looked I thought it to be a piece of classic southern architecture called a "Dog Run House." With the breezeway between the two structures, it served as a retreat from the hot summer sun before A/C was available. I guess it was popular at one time. I watched an episode of a Discovery Channel show were one was dismantled and moved to another site.

I can't wait to see if this turns into a rural car dealer and hardware store....

Looks great so far- i often start off with a project or certain scene in mind, and then it transmorgrifies into something completely different. i think that's just because you're such a talented artist...

I agree with phil on how projects metamorphosize , mine do all the time & on the talented artist part also ( the shingles must have been fun )
However , yours looks to be a very close copy of the building you where inspired by
Just needs a black wash & a bit of weathering , windows should not be to hard to finnish etc

                Great Job !

After a bit of a quiet phase in the build, I added a porch.

You definitely needed a covered area to sit out and sip some lemonade...the porch looks great.

Hm, oh yeah, it needs a bench, and a nice chair! And a small table!
