This has always been one of my favorite Mustang castings because it looks so correct. I try to buy every issue that I see. Sorry the retool lost the opening hood, but the newer issues don't have the rough parting lines near the rear side windows found on some older versions.
Thanks for showing, Dan. I think I'm missing the last one above.👍 1 -
Not so correct.....it's a 67.
Still I love it though.Scotty "Mustang (+Matchbox) Mad Man!"

That is absolutely true. When I first started collecting these I realized it had the side trim of a '67. Them I found out that everyone on the Hot Wheels internet sites already knew that. So, it is one of several labelling goofs on Mattel's part, and they never fully corrected it. Later it was issued in some series as a 1967.So the incorrect designation has been with us for many years. Incorrect or not, the casting is still cataloged as a 1968 in most listings because that is what it says on the base and cardboards, and it is easier to find in lists.. Some lists will show that discrepancy in a footnote or comment.
Pull up the South Texas Diecast website and search for '68 Mustang, and you'll find the explanation at the top of the page in the description box. Even better, they show in the lists which issues were sold as a 1967.
Like you, I still love this casting and consider it one of the best of the mid '60.s Mustangs.

Thanks ivantt.....I'll check out that site. I have such a pet peeve when it comes to the make model and year of cars, especially Mustang's I tend to drive myself nuts when I see something listed wrong....LOLScotty "Mustang (+Matchbox) Mad Man!"
