  • Lime Seagrave Pumper

Just got this one in the mail from my buddy Don in So Cal -

I like the idea of a lime green Seagrave but wish the baseplate was chrome (like the blister card art shown above) -

That'll be a good one to try out my "chrome" "pen" I got at Hobby Lobby a month or two back when somebody recommended it. Still haven't opened the package. But gotta find new stuff on the pegs and they're not here yet. I kinda like the lime/white combo...but then I'm no real stickler for detail/realism when it comes to tiny toy fireengines...

Nice... I have other varies of this one, but I like the detail and the way the tampos stand out on the lime color...

I scored this yesterday afternoon my self. Not a bad model, but like others stated it really needs a chrome base. The graphics are a bit modern for the rig and would have been carried off better on a newer model rig, but not horrid.

I, too, got mine from Don in the mail a day or so ago. Liking the color and graphics but agree - it needs the chrome base!

Like Brian, I think the livery looks out of place on a 1950s American rig. While generic, I think, I still feel it alludes to the South Australia Fire Service. I feel the Scania or Blaze Blitzer would be more fitting. And no chrome?

You know, this casting has not had a single licensed livery (as a Code 1 issue). Wonder why? Even with all the criticism, I think the "Ward LaFrance Green" popular in the '70s looks good on it. Definitely coming home with me--which given local stocking, may be March/April.

Fire apparatus older than the mid 1970's should be RED not slime green. Just sayin! (rant over)

Hey Jim - your comment reminds me of the fire chief in St. Louis when I lived there in the early '80's - he made it clear that all his apparatus would be red!

I like my fire engines like I like my steak... the redder, the better! That being said, a lot of apparatus that were originally red ended up getting painted slime green in the 70s.

SLO City did this too, and painted our entire fleet in American LaFrance Safety Yellow Here's a couple of very sad pictures of our beautiful 1956 Seagrave laddertruck getting put back together after getting "slimed" -

This truck ended up getting donated to our "sister-city" in Mexico. I've often wondered if it is still sitting somewhere rusting or if it eventually got scrapped for metal.

A safety idea and a costly fad that did not work out well !

P.S. I found mine yesterday at the zero store (Target) !
