  • New Punch Buggy/Slug Bug release

Found these at Wally World. I noticed some pallet-raiders had grabbed the small case and started rifling through it, but they turned out to be good people who pegged what they didn’t want to buy after they opened it. I bought two of the remaining models, including a Herbie-but-for-a-number and a T1 with a surfboard in a color I couldn’t resist.

Nice series of VW models. Might grab the Herbie clone if it shows up at one of my Wal Marts.

I saw those and almost grabbed the bus with the surfboard...but I had a lot in my buggy and had to put some things back.
The image file limits have been reset. Upper limits now are 100,000 when we have some images that exceed 5,000,000. I've set the pixels for no more than 1000 across the longest side, so if you resize to that all should be well. (The limits are larger than what I typically use, and my images turn out just fine, so I know it shouldn't be a problem)

      Thank you for your understanding.

Nice looking new Punch Buggy's, I just got a bus with skis on top, and a red Firestone bug a few weeks back, I thought they were a new release, apparently not, so hope to find these two, but I'm not sure if the almost herbie one will ever be left behind for me to find around these parts.

It may be difficult to find faux-Herbie, since these apparently come in small cases with one variation per set.

The pair that opened the little box on the pallet ultimately decided to take the grey/gold T1 and peg the rest.

I left the "school bus", red and black bugs behind for another collector. Can't go wrong at $2.97 each for these.

Certainly a nice improvement over the prior releases that don't seem to be flying off the shelves - the Herbie wannabe and the surfboarding bus show promise. This whole series is crying out for better looking rims - these disc-type wheels just add no excitement whatsoever.

I agree they could do better on the wheel choices, but I appreciate the effort made on other features, including the details on "Herbie's" headlights.

That puts things in a much better perspective, VERY NICE! - a little detail work and a rim swap may have quite a nice piece.

The surfboards and skis are what "made" me buy so many of the series so far. I'm still having some confusion about how an entire line of "3-inch diecast" can be devoted to one make or model (VW in this example). I opted to buy a few of the "bugs", but each of the ski- or board-equipped T1 'vans' had to drive over to my house to meet my love for surfboards and skis.

Of course, they're by Jada, and these days, isn't almost EVERYTHING we crave in "3-inch diecast"....?

                      about the Herbie clone
                      Majorette did put on a different number on it 53 + 11 = 64

Sorry for the bump, delete this post if it is too much of a bump.

After the same mix being released over and over, I have finally found the mix this thread is about.

I bought the school bus, the white and blue bus, the #5 beetle, and the #56 beetle. All but the Herbie (of course) were there.
I collect all diecast from the 1950's to now.

I appreciate the bump, I hadn't seen this post before. I have collected a few of these, but not as many as you would think. They are nice models, with great features, but the wheels need a lot more variety. I'm guessing Jada/Majorette thought churning out a bunch of bugs and buses with the same wheels would be more cost-effective. I'll pick them up every now and then, maybe I'll end up with a complete set someday, but not today.
No matter where you go, there you are.

I got that one last year and gave it to my nephew who is also named Ben.

I still haven't found the batch at the beginning of the thread, but WM's doesn't stock the series too often, and when they do it seems like they only get like one case, and the ones I like are already gone when I get there.
