  • Photobucket outage.

i just saw this posted when i tried to use my pb account...

**SERVICE DISRUPTION UPDATE 12/21: The majority of Photobucket Members are back online. We continue to work on getting all Members’ fully functional. We will report back as progress continues.**

We apologize for the recent service disruption that you have been experiencing these last few days.

We deeply regret that this happened and we are working around the clock to bring photobucket.com back online.

First and foremost, your images are safe. Our number one priority is to ensure that your images are secure and we have several systems in place to make sure nothing is compromised.

We will provide ongoing updates as we make progress to finding the full solution. What happened?

On Wednesday, December 18th we experienced a total power outage at our primary data center. Due to the abrupt nature of the outage the equipment that runs the site shutdown unexpectedly. The immediate shutdown resulted in systematic issues when the power was restored. Unfortunately, due to this unexpected shutdown, we were also not able to rely on our backup data center resources. What are we doing right now?

The process is taking longer than expected because the security we have in place requires additional processing time. Most importantly, our primary focus is to ensure your photos are safe and secure! What are we doing to prevent these situations going forward?

We are in the process of migrating Photobucket to a more reliable environment. The environment will give us more stability and help us reduce these issues in the future. Once service is restored, our primary focus will be on moving your beloved images to this environment.

We understand your frustration and sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

Thank you for your ongoing support,

    Ted

wasn't it nice of them to wait 3 days before they bother to tell us users that there was a problem.

Yeah I havent been able to get in there for days and I see my pics are down too, so much for being a paying customer.
Seems easier to upload pics directly here.

I don't know why everyone insists on struggling with Photobucket. I'm pretty certain ImageShack is cheaper and I know they're less intrusive and haven't had nearly as much downtime in the past few years as PB.

I think the hard part for those folks who've been paying for it is that they had, and have, so many photos on there they hate to lose. hundreds, maybe thousands. I did too at one time, probably well over a thousand, well maybe they are still there, but it has been all messed up for free accounts for a long time now, but I don't know if those paying for it have an easy way to transfer all their images to another host.

Some posters might have all of their photos backed up already, so for those posters it's likely worthwhile to cut losses, move on and repost the pictures here again from their new location.

I have thousands of pics of my toy collection and pics from derbies dating back 10+ years on several different PB accounts. After they kept adding ads to the point where my browser wouldn't even function while in PB I gave up. It's lousy cause nearly all the pics I posted to the original Garage and elsewhere are hosted on PB. Sometimes they show up on the old forum and other times they don't. Free or paid, a service isn't suppose to give a person that much grief. I used Deviant Art for a while and recently switched over to http://postimage.org if I wish to use a 3rd party host. It's 100% free and you can make multiple albums. Otherwise I just upload attachments directly on here. I'm amazed PB even still exists. It at one time was so simple to use and relatively fast even back on the dial up/pre-DSL days.

I'll have to look into postimage, if it does everything ImageShack does for free I might have to migrate.

I have not actively used Photobucket for some time now, even though I have been a paying customer for over 10 years.

I logged in this morning to check in on my account, and try to fix some dead photo links. I show having 1,600 photos, but none of them are showing. Nothing. Nada. Just the endless "circle of loading" icon.

PB has done some stupid things over the past few years, and it appears that they really messed up this time.
I collect what I like, and I like what I collect.

Like pegers, Im stubborn and set in my ways. However at this point Im fed up with PB. I have been a long time paying customer and my hard earned dollars are not being put to good use.
Its going to be a mess sorting it all out in the upcoming year, good thing the data base here has an unlimited time frame for editing.

I guess if I just "point and shoot" and upload to a third party web host the hassle wouldn't be that great if something crashed and I lost every picture. But the fact that I put a lot of effort in my images with cropping and editing it would be devastating to me to lose everything.

I save everything to the Photo app. (iPhoto) on my hard drive. Ever hour it gets backed up through "Time Machine" the backup app on my iMac desktop.

I have tens of thousands of digital pictures that I have taken since the early 90's when I bought my first digital camera and my first Macintosh computer. Every image is accessible since there is a "create date" on each picture.

Back on my computer, there is a hierarchy of folders covering everyday at Swifty's Garage showing year, month and day.

When new diecast arrives, base photos, primarily my sideview shot which most members are familiar with are loaded in the "Day" folder. From there, certain pics are edited, cropped, color corrected, resized to fit my "Pages" desktop publishing requirements. Pages is similar to MS Word, Adobe Pagemaker or QuarkXPress programs.

I then resize to 1000 x 500 pixels at 200dpi resolution for my Diecast Garage uploads. I add images and choose Full Size for what I think is perfect for the upload.

Over the years I have become proficient in Photoshop or Photo Elements so my editing time has been reduced.

Me, being a "MacHead" doesn't make my procedure the best or Macintosh the only platform to make things efficient. IBM compatibles will do.

I am retired from a huge commercial printing company. Macintosh rules in the graphic arts industry, therefore all my Mac experience was a result of my job in Desktop Publishing from 1991-2011. My production machine was a Centris 610 and a Quadtra 950 when I started. When I left in 2011 I was using a Mac G3, loaded for bear, at the time.
