  • '65 MUSTANG CONVERTIBLE

A rather nice issue of the '65 MUSTANG CONVERTIBLE has appeared. It is based upon a car seen in the movie "Thunderball". The turn signal lamps and front "205" plate are tampo-printed:

The car seen in the film:

The casting had been refurbished in 2013 and now has a plastic base plate, the grille cast with the body and the hood cast shut.

I got me a couple. They put the "260" V-8 tampo in the wrong place It's okay, still a fun casting!

I bought a few of these but I do not like what HW's did to this casting.

Personally, I'd rather see the other '65 Mustang casting get redone as a convertible and notchback than see this casting continue to get use. The wheels always sit proud of the fenders slightly.

Like Scotty, I really don't care for what they have done to this casting - but know this is the route they are going with most models. That said, it I see this one on the pegs it most likely would come home with me.

While the casting loses the opening hood and metal base, it does improve on details as the grille and rear taillights are more defined now, the mysterious slots behind the tonneau cover are gone, and most importantly the wheels now fit flush with the body instead of sticking out past the body, an issue that has been continuous since the 1995 release of the new wheel designs.
