While I was in downtown Eugene, Oregon, I found these diecast and this 1990 Toysrus carry case in a trash pile outside of a recently vacated rental property undergoing repairs between tenants. I saw the 48-car case out of my peripheral vision and had to find a safe place to turn around and look, even though I was expecting a waterlogged or moldy, broken-up case with no trays and a few corroded or smashed cars.

When I opened the top, much to my surprise... full case! Couldn't resist 48 free diecast, the equivalent of $24 in St. Vincent DePaul bin of death cars, and a case worth at least a buck once I fix some damage with red duct tape.

These castings are quite nice, and with the Purple Passion, '53 Chevy Bel Air, So Fine, Tail Dragger, Corvette Grand Sport, etc., whoever collected these knew something about the hobby as opposed to just collecting cars to play with.

Makes you wonder if the last tenant just forgot them back when they moved, or just lost interest in them, but either way lucky for you to save them from being tossed in the dumpster.

OK--seriously?! I would see no reason to toss them, as they did. Back when we leased an adjoining farm, I found a few old HWs from the Redline era, a Mongoose Top Fuel, and a Mutt Mobile (missing all the interior, glass, and top) as well as two large scale, Canadian-made dump trucks. Still have all of them, despite their relatively poor conditon. Been considering rebuilding the Mutt Mobile with a 1990s remake. The Top Fuel has rusty axles, but is complete save a set of wheels that snaps into the weight that allows it to wheelie and a parachute.

Everything's in good shape--I'd say you won, big time! Those carry cases fall apart with age, or hopefully, by 1990 the old Lesney design was fixed by Tara or whoever made that case.

              One mans trash.....another man's........

I have found so much stuff from peeps throwing stuff out. Die-cast, vintage Tonka trucks, HO train stuff and other toys, working VCR's (still worth $20-30), a pedal car, even a perfectly good 1970's Honda motor cycle frame I wound up selling to a collector for $100.

I've found my fair share. My living room stereo came from a dumpster in 2013.

great find. To me it sound more like what we call a Mid-Nite move,So behind in rent and about to be evicted you grab what you can and get out before the Landlord pad locks the place.
