I am very sad to report that DG member Z28HO Sam Samuel passed away in a hospital yesterday. His daughter called to notify me today. Sam lost his dear wife last year and really missed her during the Christmas holiday.
Sam was a long retired professional model builder, good friend and partner with building several of my custom model projects. One of his most helpful project was our very successful 05/07/20 custom to build an accurate example of the 1969 Ferrari Team 312P Spyder #25 driven by Chris Amon and Mario Andretti to 2nd overall and 1st in class P3.0 at the 1969 Sebring 12 Hours.

Sam provided a "barn find" rough 1976 vintage HW Ferrari 312P to use as the base model for our joint custom project. He disassembled the model and stripped the body/engine castings.

The actual 1969 Ferrari Team 312P Spyders came with a snorkel air intake, large rear spoiler and lower front fender splitters. The HW 312P body shell does not include these items. So Sam expertly fabricated a correct snorkel air intake, rear spoiler and front fender splitters. He then primed and painted the body shell the correct Ferrair racing team red.

The crude HW 312P model's original wheels were one of the major items needing Sam's assistance. He was a true expert at resin casting very accurate wheels. Sam designed and created a mold of the correct 1969 Ferrari Team racing five spoke wheels. He cast several sets and correctly painted the flat black tires with gold five spoke rims and provided correct new axles.

Sam shipped his part of everything to me for all of the final fabrications, modifications, assembly and decal application. Here was the final excellent results.

I really miss my friend and custom build project partner and pray for his family. Rest In Piece Sam. Your excellently assisted custom models have prominent places in several of my display cabinets that will often remind me of you.
