They would be intentional misspellings of "Audi" and "Sanyo" to avoid fees for using those names.

I figured the yellow and blue was tied to the Swedish flag, and doing a bit more snooping, I see this Audi Quattro Sport was the overall winner of the 1982 World Rally Championship (WRC). The second round of the rally was held on February 12-14 in Sweden. Interesting to note that no Volvos participated in the WRC that year.

Never saw another "full grille" example before mine.

Mark F. Those are in nice condition. Do they have full grilles? The white one looks like it might, but can't tell on the green one. They have the shorter front bumper, so guessing they probably have the full grille. Nice wheels too.

Scirocco Never saw a chrome one before. The clear bumper example is interesting, and it has the funky 4-dot wheels. Thanks for showing the base. The yellow one is sporty, and it's missing the "Sando" sponsorship on the hood and trunk. Also does not have the arrow design on the roof (same as mine). So many variations to enjoy.

Looking closer at Scirocco's clear bumper example, and pondering everything a bit more, I think the partial grille could be a design feature, not a casting or mold error. Who knows? Any opinions on that? The partial grille examples also have a wider bumper than the full grille ones, and the tail lights are in different locations (from the ones I've seen). Would these feature differences be considered incremental development changes or separate castings? Since they are all № S691, probably just modifications to the same casting.

Yes. These are all the same later issues.

The older issues having only the lights and grille chrome would better replicate the real car's look. The real car has painted bodywork between the grille and lights:




The later issues would have been simplified for easier production.
