  • Waterslide transfer question

Has anyone had custom transfers made?

I'm thinking of painting a truck to make it look like ours, but my eyesight's not good enough for really fine detail, such as the pin striping, and lettering on the door.

I was wondering if I can get these made made as transfers

It is possible, I've done it myself.
Using special paper, printed using a Color Laser printer.

Pin striping will be rather difficult though, to apply them that is ...

And how long will they last?

Cannot find any online service that will do what you want though...

Hi Swerl, I just use white decals (from eBay sellers) or clear (from Hobby Lobby) with a laser printer to do my signage for doors. If you want, send me details in a PM and I can print some the clear ones for you....I think I have some decal materials left. These are just waterslide decals and I use a little Testors decal solution for better adhesion. As fooltrottel says, the pin striping is difficult and I don't think I can really assist with that.

        aww you guys are lovely.

I did find this site, but I don't know if they would make them small enough. https://www.bedlamcreations.com/cust...rslide-decals/

The model is 1st gears b61 sleeper cab. It's supposed to be 1:64. I haven't bought one yet. ToyotaGeek has.

I did paint a matchbox version about 15 years ago, and it came up pretty good, but I just can't see well enough to try such tiny writing now.

This is what I'm wanting to replicate.......

Do you think it's possible to get something so small printed, and still be legible?

hmmm, do they peel off after awhile?
would a clear topcoat do the trick or is it likely to yellow over time.

'over time' ... yeah. That's like... in years? Five, Seven, Twenty?

One could clear coat them for sure.
Well, in the end you got small decals, so if you get a sheet of A4/Letter full of them, and store the remainders properly, dry and dark, you can always re-apply them

As for the pin stripe you showed there: The swirly bits should be doable, but the blue line along the edge of the fender? Hm... would be nearly impossible to position it correctly me thinks...

Here's a picture of a formerly Chicago Police Dodge that I converted to a Taxi. Don't pay too much attention to the paint job, the decals on the door are of the custom-water slide type ... Not home made, I bought them from somewhere...

That's certainly readable. I think the truck door is probably going to be smaller.
Maybe TG can measure his when he gets it.
It's only the scroll bit for the pinstripe, the lines around the guards and sleeper I can paint.

I notice clever people manufacturing spare parts. Is that done with a polymer clay, or resin or what? My truck would need a bullbar to make it really authentic, and maybe air cleaners.

I hate to recommend Facebook, but there are some 1/64 diorama and customizing groups and some of those guys have got real talent. Some do commissions, some don't. As for custom parts, I think Stangfreak used to create his own stuff, so he might be able to provide some insight. Otherwise there are people that can do 3D printing. Finding the right people is the hard part.

Stamp N Toys has some resin parts/kits, maybe they could advise you on a source for the items you need? https://www.stamp-n-toys.com/product...in-cabs-parts/

My trucks are packed away right now, and we're in the middle of some "stuff", but give me a few days and I can dig it out and take some better pictures and possible measurements.

I collect what I like, and I like what I collect.

No worries TG, it's just a bit of a pipe dream at the moment. Trying to work out whether I can pull it off or if I'm just to wreck a nice (expensive) model

Are you on Instagram? Since you're in Australia, it might be best to hook up with a fellow Aussie. Rob G (rob.gras) might have some clues as to how, why, where and all that other stuff. He does a lot of customizing himself, and may have some more local leads for you. He was on the old Swifty's forum, but I don't know if he made the move here. He's very active on IG. Another guy is Aussie Dave (aus.dave).

If you want to do any long pin stripe lines, buy some railroad decals in HO or N scale that are available with lots of stripes. Saves you a lot of time trying to mask and paint them. There are also a lot of non railroad decal sheets that are made with very fine and thin stripes or some wider ones.
