  • HW City 5-Pack

I really haven't been able to do much diecast hunting lately. Between school, the weather, and a whole bunch of other things, basically. The stores my folks like to buy groceries at typically don't really carry diecast, or are really poor at it. And for some odd reason, buying online isn't really as fun, but have been meaning to pick up a few M2s, AWs, and GLs, as well as some more Siku and older stuff.

Food City really doesn't have that much (and honestly, I wish they'd ditch the gimmicky blind-bag junk they have and can't pay people to take to stock MB alongside HW); but I saw Fire Eater in this City 5-Pack, and decided to pick it up.

Off Duty representing a squad truck. Orange windows are the worst part of it.

All castings in this pack are made in Indonesia; as listed on the base.

First Fire Eater I've seen in a LONG time. It's plastic-bodied, but SHINY! The whole body is chrome plated.

Weird flaw on officer's side front. Guessing from the plating process?

Repo Duty. I like Repo Duty and Rescue Duty for one reason--they are spiritual successors to Rescue Ranger and Ramblin' Wrecker--Larry Wood classics. And the livery is good.

It can tow, but the car has to be set up on the wheel lift. The newer "Heavy Hitcher" is a lot better at towing due to the spring-loaded boom.

Symbolic. Main issue--different color wheels. HW has been doing that a lot lately, and I think it's silly.

Tour De Fast. Main reason I do like this casting is because of the fact that it appears to be based on a classic Citroen DS. Not an emergency vehicle, but, it's in the pack. And not too bad.

In general, I'm definitely keeping Fire Eater and Repo Duty; and maybe Tour De Fast (even though it does not fit at all into what I really focus on these days). The rest I'm getting rid of ASAP. Don't want them stinking up the collection!

I picked up that set in the spring, mainly for the Fire Eater, I did keep the off duty two, the rest I gave to my kids. (Even though the boys each got that set, lol)

Most of those are not my cup of tea...hoping someplace, somewhere I will find the Fire Eater on a sale list - maybe at Toy Peddler.

Nice set, and In the old days I would have been wanting it for the Fire Eater, Off Duty, and maybe even the Repo Duty, but nowadays I limit what I add, especially with the Fire eater being plastic now....I do have a chrome one they did years ago in the Silver Series, I guess it was back in the 90's.

I am surprised about your city set, because I have just bought one in Germany and it is NOT the same. I took it just because of the police model, but this Police Crusier is blue and not black like yours (?!).
I also found the same police car in a two-pack, but it's not the same with yours and not the same as my first one.
So there are probably already 3 variants (!). My two and your black police model.
Now I have to search the set with the black police model ... or is your car the same like the policecar from the two car set ??
Perhaps your policecar is only on the Picture in black Color ???

            PJ,

When it comes to the sets that retail, for about $5.00 that I only want one or two models out of I usually just buy it then. In the past when I wait, I usually end up paying give or take $5.00 to get the model (some cases more), especially if shipping is involved. Of course the exception and deal is when I find a several vehicles of interest from one seller, but that’s not usually my luck.

May just be my camera, but mine is indeed dark blue, but maybe a shade or so darker than your example.

I'd grab that 2-pack the second I saw it. Maybe I need to go visit a few grocery store 'toy aisles'...since the 'toy' retailers won't carry them.
