  • MAN #1086 SCANIA P 360 FIRE ENGINE

I hadn't seen this one before. Rather nice. It came on a short card:

What's the grey angled part on top supposed to be?

I think it's supposed to be a ladder? Maybe someone who knows more than me has an answer.

I first thought that too but the other side has a ladder laying down.

I've looked for photos of Scania P300-series pumpers and can't find any configured that way. Can't find any photos of ANY apparatus with something quite like that. But, it does resemble (potentially) one of two things some fire agencies use: the big round rescue nets ("Life nets"?) you've seen in old photos with a ring of firemen catching victims jumping out of windows (didn't know it was a current practice, but seems I've seen pics of modern apparatus with one folded in half on the side); or a "Fold-a-Tank" portable 1000-gallon reservoir (the wedge shape doesn't seem right though).

Believe this was the first issue of this casting with the German fire markings.
