  • MAN #1198 '94 CHEVY CAPRICE CLASSIC POLICE

    Here's a new casting I found.
It is now the highest MAN number I have, having surpassed the 1961 FORD FALCON RANCHERO at 1194.

MAN #1198 '94 CHEVY CAPRICE CLASSIC POLICE:

Matchbox is late out of the gate with this model as it has been done by other manufacturers many years ago. But I guess now, it counts as a vintage police car.

Awesome to see Matchbox offer this older Caprice police car. As I commented, I think in a post in the apparatus forum, I think it is great that Matchbox is offering us some older police cars and civilian cars!

This was a hard one to find, but I am quite happy I managed to find it. The NYPD livery is a real treat; I'd never expected that it would debut in that design.

Some more detailing could be done, but I think the MBX team knocked this one out of the ballpark, even with such casting faux-pas due to restrictive budgets, like glass-integrated light bars.

I can't wait to find this one in my neck of the woods! Need to check Dollar General--they and Walmart are the only close-by stores that stock MBX these days, and as of late, I haven't really been in DG. They should have the "holiday "shippers for MB and HW out. There's also Rural King in the mall around Christmas. Hopefully, on Christmas break, I can start making a few diecast runs.

They're also out in Power Grabs cases!!! I found the PG at a Fred Meyer store I occasionally visit (Sundays after my breakfast with my best buddy the HW collector). The case mixes for PGs seem to match the mixes in the carded model cases/batches now...24 models in each case and no repeats between the 'card cases'.

In other words, there were 3 Caprices, 2 Taurus Interceptors and 1 LACoFD Brush Truck per PG case, and the rest of the models seemed to match my memory of the street cars in a carded case, with the new Mercedes 220 SE sedan for Ewy Rosqvist's Championship "Female Touring Car" in there too:

I did not buy everything from the batch...the forklift is a triple and there are only a couple of treys in a case (I think the Caprice is the other), and I left the Chevy Colorado Xtreme (I am collecting that one so I don't know why I didn't 'grab' one of them...but I haven't seen the mix on cards anywhere yet so when I do I'll fill from the pegs) and one or two others I just didn't need.

The '57 T-Bird convertible is new (right?) as are the Mercedes 220 SE and the Caprice Classic Police. Oh, and the Banana Car!

Must find this! Did you find it at Walmart?

I guess I saw contents of more than one PG case when I thought there were multiple Classic Police Caprices in each case. But there were 3 opened PG cases on the shelf, and 4 brand new unopened cases nearby....so I don't know how many in a freshly-opened case. I got all I wanted and left plenty for others....great day for diecast for me!

Yes. It was the only one there.

Can't wait to pick one (or three) up. Will look good next to the models from the NYPD five pack.
