  • Holidays - There's no telling where you'll find diecast

Found this 71 Datsun 510 wagon today at Sav-a-lot grocery store here, in the year since I lived here and shopped at this small store just a couple blocks away, I'd never seen a toy in there, so I was surprised to see these by the checkout, and more surprised to find this nice Datsun model. Guess during the Holidays you never know where toy cars will pop up.

I don't know what series these dark gray cards were from, but I never seen them in the area WM.

    Congratulations!

Yup. The Christmas holiday season prods all kinds of stores to carry stuff that they never would stock the rest of the year, like toys. Seems to catch the scalpers off guard. We found both of our only two Treasure Hunts at the same grocery store near us.

        Great score!

Good thing about Christmas--lots of stores carrying things they normally don't. Particularly toys. Currently, my Tractor Supply has quite a bit of Ertl, New Ray, and Bruder, as well as Breyer. Food Lion, just a small car carrier playset. Been meaning to get my rear to Rural King--their toy selection is normally pretty good, but excellent at Christmas.

Yes, it seems like most of the farm supply stores add a few toys during the Christmas season. I know the little drug stores in this area always get some diecast from one of their suppliers during this time of year - one year I was surprised as they had the Matchbox Best of British models on the pegs. Likewise some hardware stores and even the little grocery store in the next town over has a few Hot Wheels on the pegs.

Oops, I stopped by the little convenience store/gas station today to get gas, and didn't even think to check in there for cars, I imagine they might seize the opportunity as well for Christmastime.

Yes, there is a C-store/gas station in Mandan, ND that has a display of Matchbox models - not sure where they might have had them hid as the selection includes both of the early versions of the VW pickup. C-store price, I think, was something like $1.89 for the Matchbox.

I guess if it is something you really wanted, and just never could find, it'd be worth the extra if you ran across it there. I doubt they sell very many, even at Christmas.
