        Outstanding Steve!!
Due to the recent budget cuts,
the rising cost of electricity, gas, and oil, plus the
current state of the economy, the light at the end
of the tunnel has been turned off.

The red and blue fox bodies in the last two pics are my favorite versions from GL. They're what I remember stomping the streets up till the early 2000s or so.

Well, at least you know what the name "Mustang" means. It's a Ford/horsie thing (like "Pinto"), and it makes sense.

For the life of me (and I say this as a Chevy guy), I still cannot figure out what the "Camaro" is named for.

Although, according to Wikipedia, in June of 1966...

"Automotive press asked Chevrolet product managers, what is a Camaro? and were told it was a small, vicious animal that eats Mustangs."

So basically, they made the name up. So there's that.

My understanding is that it's derived from a Spanish or French or Occitan word for 'friend'.

Uh-oh, I hope I don't lose points for the Torino, Escort, Sierra and handful of Mazdas in a few of my shots. It was the Ford and relatives meet-up.

Yes, I also had heard that Camaro was from a French word, but according to Wikipedia...

In the book The Complete Book of Camaro, it states that Mr. Lund and Mr. Rollett found the word camaro in the French-English dictionary was slang, to mean friend, pal, or comrade. The article further repeated Estes's statement of what the word camaro was meant to imply, that the car's name "suggests the comradeship of good friends, as a personal car should be to its owner".[11] In fact, the actual French word that has that meaning is "camarade," from which the English word "comrade" is derived,[12] and not "camaro"; "camaro" is not a recognized word in the French language.

Torino is Italian for Turin, a city in Italy. At least Escort and Sierra are real words. Mazda is taken from Ahura Mazda meaning "god of light" and also derives from the company's founder, Jujiro Matsuda. (all that per Wikipedia again). There's intrinsic meaning in those names, but the only meaning in Camaro is that it's a name (which had to begin with "C") that Chevy made up.

Oh well. The car is no less for having a made up name.

I guess I'll stop bragging to my Francophone family members how many Camaros I have.
