    Greenlight 1979 Pontiac Firebird

    I know Greenlight has its fans around here, but I have the darnedest time finding them at retail. As a result, the few GLs I have are almost all from secondary sources. (I don't even remember where I got this one.... )

    I am a closet fan of this era Firebird in large part due to the movie Smokey and the Bandit and the TV show Rockford Files. And Pontiac always had a sportier edge to their styling that set them apart from Chevrolet and Camaros.

    The image file limits have been reset. Upper limits now are 100,000 when we have some images that exceed 5,000,000. I've set the pixels for no more than 1000 across the longest side, so if you resize to that all should be well. (The limits are larger than what I typically use, and my images turn out just fine, so I know it shouldn't be a problem)

          Almost all of my GL models come from an online source. The Pontic you share was part of a car diorama - one I bought to get this police car - the other car long traded off.

            great choice- i think what the other ride was that came with this one would be a good collector trivia question- maybe even the $100,000 jackpot stumper. i did the research on these way back when:

            Sheriff J. D. Stewart deployed an entire fleet of these super patrol cars starting in 1978.

            For some reason, they went with a red interior, no screaming chicken, and no air conditioning...

              Nice one Wes! They never used this iteration of the Firebird on the Rockford Files. James Gardner hated that front end. I have issues with this casting that I won't get into but at least that year is represented in diecast close to scale compared to others and I have my share of examples of this tooling in my collection.

                Truth be told, I'm not crazy about this front end either. I much prefer the '77-78.

                I do recall the concept Kammback featuring in one (two?) episodes (I think it was a 2 part episode), but in fairness it was his on-screen girlfriend of the story who drove it, not Garner.

                  This is a very nice casting that I've always been let down a bit by the wheels. Greenlight has tried everything but making an actual Pontiac snowflake wheel for the late 70's -81 Firebird.
