    Le Mans and Can-Am Racers

    Just like the other thread on the open-wheel racers, let's not include 1/43 models, and for this one, let's stick to Le Mans and Can-Am cars. Here we go!

    First the French brand Champion with 8 different models, some of which bearing the livery of actual race cars, a Chaparral 2D, a Ford GT40, a Ferrari 512S, a Ferrari P3, a Matra 650, and two Porsche 917, short and long tail versions. I recently missed a lot on eBay of mint in boxes of these beauties and I am still kicking myself.

      Knowing you, if you dig a little bit I am sure you can come up with a few models. Unless you already sold everything away!

        Nice lead off, I've been admiring the Safir-Champions and at some point will probably give in.

        The image file limits have been reset. Upper limits now are 100,000 when we have some images that exceed 5,000,000. I've set the pixels for no more than 1000 across the longest side, so if you resize to that all should be well. (The limits are larger than what I typically use, and my images turn out just fine, so I know it shouldn't be a problem)

            Aurora Ford J-Car

            What I like about the Aurora version of the J-Car (as opposed to the Hot Wheels Redline) is the blacked out front more true to the original. I've only seen pics of the original in white with the blacked out front, and I understand it crashed and killed the driver - leading to the more famous GT-40.

            I just got back from watching the Ford v. Ferrari movie. Excellent! But as soon as I heard the name Ken Miles I connected the dots, so I knew what was coming. I did have it a little mixed up, the J-car followed the GT-40, supposed to be an update. After the Le Mans race and I saw the test of the new "GT" with the black painted front, I knew what was coming...the car was not correct, but the J-car was a one off, and it was destroyed in the accident, so the film makers would have had to use a GT-40 as a stand in (or use CGI to invent one). At least I got more of the story behind Ken Miles, I can appreciate his story all the more.

              I don't have any Aurora. From what I can tell they are hard to come by in mint condition. I do have a Ford J-Car though, not by Hot Wheels but by the Italian brand Politoys.

                              I just won a Zylmex carded lot on eBay including this Lola (will share it when I receive it). I really like this casting. Is it a copy of another brand or an original casting?
