    Well, it's stock!

I'm always excited when a new emergency vehicle comes out from Matchbox. There were three new castings last year, and while there are only two this year they both are by far my favourites. I always welcome PI-U's into my collection, and to have it in a fire chief livery makes it that much better.

If you know me, you know that I love adding extra detail to models - it's what makes a good model a great one. I love seeing the potential of models without any detail on them and find myself satisfied with the end product (even though it is very time consuming).

As you may have noticed, I made two versions - one with the black body trim (as per the real vehicle), and the other without (to match the card art).
But back to the model. The part that most impresses me is the fact that it is a stock Pi-U, unlike the previous generation Explorer that was casted (which was some cross between an emergency and off-road vehicle). While it was nice in the fact that it was an emergency vehicle Explorer (and it appeared in a number of emergency liveries), I was let down by the fact that it wasn't stock. When I first saw this in a preview from the Matchbox team on Instagram, it immediately became one of my most-wanted models because it was stock.

With the dismal distribution of Matchbox in general, I never had hope that I would find this model until a friend of mine sent me a message saying that new Matchbox had shown up at Walmart after a three or four month hiatus (where the pegs were bare). So I naturally went hunting, and found pretty much everything I wanted from the R case. The new way that the cases are packed means more duplicate models per case, and there were a lot of this PI on the pegs - that led to a very happy me.

At the end of the day, I love this casting and how it was executed. This debut livery is quite nice and realistic, though I could do without the "Official Business" marque on top of the fire hief logo. Plus, they spelt "Business" wrong...
I look forward to seeing this in many different liveries down the road - and hopefully some licensed ones are on the horizon.

Here's the PI with the previous generation Explorer:

And with the sedan - also in a fire chief livery.

That's all from me this time - hope you enjoyed the photos!

Oh that is one I'll need to get, thanks for the great pictures, and I think I like the black trim best, too bad MBx didn't choose that.

Edit: That was earlier today, but later this morning I found it WMs,

Nice write up and added detail...... Only thing that bugs me about this one is that massive tow hook on the back. If I find one I might hack that tow hook off and then paint black like above.

I'd suggest painting the camping trailer in a firehouse livery. Then you'd have a nice custom "Hitch & Haul"!

As always a nice review of this new model Terrence. Neat to see the custom touches you have done to enhance the model. Like others, I am glad this is a stock PI. Now to hopefully find one!
