  • Edit Button Changed?

Today I looked in Bert's Torrid Tyres thread to make today's entry, and saw that the previous day's entry was missing its pic. The pic showed when I checked the post yesterday, so I dunno why that happened. Normally when that happens, I'd just edit the post and re-upload the pic, but then I noticed the edit button was gone.

Is this a new thing, the edit button going away after--what--a day? 'Cuz sometimes, a day isn't enough time.

    Just wondering.

Yes, we changed the edit to work for 2 hours.

2 hours ... May I ask why. I need to edit data base entries and Im unable. Why not unlimited editing time?

          Yeah, we need that.
Back when Photobucket disabled all the photos for the free accounts, I was able to edit and go back and restore my photos with Imgur in my recent threads, and I even went way back to real old threads that I had a lot of what I thought to be important threads/photos people may search for reference, and restore them, so I kind of like having it unlimited.

I think back on Swifty's, originally, the window for editing was also short (correct me if I'm wrong).

We meant to have that here also but for some reason it seems we inadvertently left the edit feature without a time limit. One reason for the time limit is so people can't just go back and change or delete something that was said, or change a price or offer in a sales thread. Either way we do it, there is good and bad outcome, depending on who, why, and what...

I know that was unfavourable change but in Swifty's Garage the edit time was limited too. It was set to unlimited after the Photobucket disaster for some time and was limited again.
Later, Contributors got unlimited edit time.

The reason for a short editing time at Swiftys is because TT wanted it that way so they could sell members perks of a longer editing times.
Editing a post is so people can go back and change what was said or posted. Has there actually been problems with editing in the BST forum?
I dont see the bad outcome with unlimited editing times.

No, I recall on Swifty's that there was an editing limit before TT.

Its possible to have unlimited editing times here and we no longer do by decision of staff.
Dont like it but guess I have to live with it.

                      That's correct.
I had the unlimited editing time because of the Contributor status. It stayed even with the TT.

It was possible in Swifty's Garage too but it was limited by the staff.

Database has unlimited edit time now.

Also, for everyone, please try to remember that the Garage is still in it's early phase, and even the Administrators and Moderators are still learning the ropes. There are things that have slipped through the cracks, or forgotten at the dock, and site is still undergoing tweaks and adjustments as we speak. In other words, it's a work in process.

I just went to the database to edit, no edit button found.

As I recall, the edit time limit (when there was one) at Swifty's was 24 hours. I found even that to be too short, as I would sometimes find typos or other problems in a post I had made the previous day. I try to be careful in the initial post, but things do slip through once in a while, such as the absence of a pic which should have been there in the post I mentioned. (That seems to have been caused by some unknown glitch in the system since the pic showed when I first made the post.)

I know DG is still in its formative stages, but this 2 hour edit limit was done deliberately, so the rope-learning issue would seem to be irrelevant. If editing must have a time limit, could it be something more practical, like 2 days? Or even a week? 'Cuz 2 hours is just not enough time.
