What I like about toy cars is that there is always something to discover. Years ago I bought the Majorette "Vintage" 5 pack. Unfortunately, two of the models (Mustang and Porsche) were recently damaged. Since the black Mustang appears to be not available individually, I bit the bullet and bought the set again.
It arrived a few days ago. On closer inspection I noticed that the 241-A VW Beetle is different. This time it had a tow hook! What a nice and unexpected addition to my collection.
And now it gets even stranger: I knew that the Beetle also existed in the trailer series and that Majorette would at some point change the base plate to add a trailer hitch. But if I take a closer look at the base plate and look at the date stamp, it is noticeable that the version with a hook is even older than the one without. Has Majorette used both variants in parallel right from the start? If so, why is the model without tow hook needed at all?
Are there possibly other Beetles with tow hooks outside of the trailer series? Let's see what can be found....
