  • 203-A VW Beetle Convertible

Until now, I always thought that the only difference between these two variants of the 203-A VW Beetle Convertible was the wheels.

Okay, strictly speaking there are three differences: color of the hubs, wheel type and wheel size.

This week I noticed two other differences.

On the older model with the chrome hubs, the rear logo is silver on a dark background. The background is missing in the later model.

It gets even more interesting at the front: The air inlet below the bumper is in the form of a grille. In the later model, the vertical struts were left out.

superfast175 - Excellent comparision of the two Majorette 203-A W Beetle Convertible variants. I prefer the earlier version with the front grill.

Ok, I can understand them saving money on the extra tampo hit, but why change something like the grill where the detail was already cut into the die mold, unless the old one wore out and they had to make a new one.
