since they both came from the same short run track set.i am not sure which is the variation.but they are under rated as for their value as variations.
Malaysia.
The track set came out with a tie to the Classics series. I got deep into the Classics series, so I did buy the "budget" track set (there were two more at the time, and shortly after a third, all with two cars each). I was expecting the set car to be from the Classics range with Classics finish...and I was very disappointed. The Mustang is cool on its own merits, but the way the packaging promoted the car I had every reason to expect a Classics exclusive variant that didn't appear. Not the first or last time Matty let me down, but this one stuck in my craw.
I didn't realize there was a variant. The Classics series was made in Thailand, most everything else was still being made in Malaysia. It makes sense there is a Thailand variant. I never looked that closely at mine, but I presume it has a metal base and was made in Thailand. What is the other variant?
The image file limits have been reset. Upper limits now are 100,000 when we have some images that exceed 5,000,000. I've set the pixels for no more than 1000 across the longest side, so if you resize to that all should be well. (The limits are larger than what I typically use, and my images turn out just fine, so I know it shouldn't be a problem)
I didn't know HWs even had a plant in Thailand, do you think they might produce them at their Matchbox plant there? Maybe having a section for special HWs like those, or I guess it could all be just one big Mattel plant, where they also produce playsets and the like including all their brands......Just one of those interesting things to me.
Doug.mattel had the plant in Thailand long before they purchased MBX. from a mattel press release years back.
The plant is located in the Bangpoo Industrial Estate Export Zone in Samutprakam outside Bangkok. It is a wholly owned Mattel facility and is dedicated to the exclusive production of “Hot Wheels” toy cars.
Thanks, I was just curious because it always seemed like all the HWs cars were made in Malaysia, and then some in China back in the 90s, guess I hadn't really been paying attention since then though.
over the years hotwheels have been made in: China,Hong Kong,Mexico,Thailand,England,France,USA,India,Ital y and Malaysia.and a few places i might have missed listing.
