  • Toyota 2000GT Disappointment

Even though I have a number of versions of the Johnny Lightning Toyota 2000GT, I was looking forward to it's re-release when I learned about it.

I preordered one, and finally received it... and I was disappointed.

They dropped the QC on it, at least on mine.

I'm curious if anyone else that purchased this release has the same problem or if mine is just a freak.

Check out the ill fitted windshield.

Even with flaws, she looks awful racy. I'm sorry you didn't get to handpick one. I have these issues all the time and now I'm trying to be more patient and find them in the store. Even the gas money I spend doesn't warrant the cost for laughing out loud.
Due to the recent budget cuts,
the rising cost of electricity, gas, and oil, plus the
current state of the economy, the light at the end
of the tunnel has been turned off.

Yeah, it still looks okay in the blister, as long as you don't look too close. I have enough loose ones already, so this one will stay as is.

The chase, or the hunt, used to be fun. But with more important day to day responsibilities (especially after getting married), I simply don't have the time (or inclination) to run around shopping in actual stores. I dislike shopping at Walmart, because my local Walmart's are 1) such a mess, and 2) picked clean by the resellers. Target doesn't carry JL. It was good when Toys R Us was still around, but after they closed local sources for diecast practically vanished, so I'm pretty much reliant on online shopping these days.

Ouch! As noted, really poor quality control. Sadly for many who collect JL models (I only buy a small few) on-line seems to be about the only option - at least for me. I rarely see JL in Wal Mart and Hobby Lobby is always hit and miss. Most recently I ordered the '59 Cadillac Coroner's model direct from the Auto World Store as well as the redone Ghostbusters pre Ecto-1 and Ecto-1 rides.

I would have to say that the camera can bring out details of diecast that you would never see with the naked eye. Considering how hard these are to make I should never complain when I get a flaw. Mike, can't tell you how many times I have bought a diecast twice because I wanted it to look better. Oh, the money I have spent not counting my Racing Champions Diecast days of Nascar, the money I have spent has to be in the tens of thousands of dollars. And yes I'm going to say this when really I shouldn't but when I got divorced from my first wife I gave Goodwill's lots of Nascar Diecast worth thousands of dollars as well all mint in the package because I live in a 700 feet apartment after getting my papers to get the heck out of Dodge.

What the?????? That windshield don't even look like it's made to fit that casting. I am really sick of this kind of quality now days. I have had several issues with several different brands as well. It pretty much started with me with the M2s a few years back. Everyone I purchased had to be fixed somehow or someway. After several messages with pics to M2 customer service as well as letters with pics mailed to them, I got no results at all. I quit buying the M2 Auto~Thentics with the opening doors and started selling the ones I had off. Then the Drivers series I bought began having many issues also. I quit buying them completely. Due to some big time unexpected expenses and going into retirement with fixed income stuff, I couldn't afford to buy any for a long, long time. Now that I can afford to resume buying on a limited basis, I bought a few GLs and had major issues with all 3. Even a few AWs before the GL purchases had minor repairable issues, but not enough to make me squawk about it. Luckily no issues with Johnny yet, but I have to say some JLs I have observed in the packages in the stores had some visible defects that caused me to leave them. At first I thought I might be too picky, but after seeing allot of complaints on FB groups and you guy's replies to some of my complaints here, I don't feel that way anymore. That really, really sucks with your Toyota 2000GT Disappointment, and I hope somehow, someway you can get it resolved to your satisfaction. At 7 dollars and more for these cars today, I do expect quality. I will go back to just collecting HWs and MBs at only a dollar each. This is pure absolute "BULL CRAP" and I will not tolerate any defects at all anymore!!!

Good Luck to ya Michael, toyotageek...

You know Steve, I have thought about not collecting anymore because I have no tolerance for mediocre but I still keep coming back for laughing out loud.

While I am disappointed, it's not that big a deal. Since I have a number of loose and carded versions already, I planned to keep this one carded anyways, so the "defect" is less obvious when looked at.

Still, I am curious if the entire run is like this or not. If not, then I guess I just got the short straw, but if they are all with ill fitting windshields, then I proclaim epic fail on JL's part (it should then never have gone into production).

I'm with you man. Do it right or don't do it at all.
