A few days ago, I got a vintage MB Dealership kit from Pola (Pola #161) in H0 (1/87 scale) in the mail.
(To see my complete mail haul, just click here.)
The kit is from Pola, a now defunct german model train accessories brand (1957 - 1996/1997). In 1997, Faller (another german model train accessories brand which is still going strong today) bought all Pola molds and trademark rights. The big G gauge kits (1/22,5 scale) are still being sold under the Pola name (now called Pola G). Everything else (ie H0 and N gauge kits) are now sold under the Faller name. Some kits underwent a few modifications - the car dealership for example is now a kitchen studio (click here to see a picture of it).
Thanks to microbuss for mentioning the Model Power version of the MB dealership, which comes with three Mercedes W126 models from Herpa (click here to see a picture of the Model Power kit).
My MB dealership kit first appeared in the Pola catalogue of 1985 and was produced until 1993-1996. The price sticker of my kit shows the name of a german model train dealer (Spiel + Technik Eberhard Nitzsche e.K., located in Darmstadt, Germany). I did some research and apparently, Nitzsche closed for good in late 1987/early 1988.
My price sticker shows a "86" mark on the left of the price (39,75 Deutsche Mark), so I assume my kit was sold in 1986. So the kit is over 30 years old, which officially makes it an antique.
The dealership comes with three unassembled Wiking models (Mercedes W126, W201, 207 D Van) and two light bulbs for lighting. Pretty awesome!
Took a quick glimpse into the box and everything seems to be in excellent condition.
I will start assembling the kit on Dec 24th, 2020 and will post some work-in-progress pictures as work is progressing.
