  • No more boxes

It looks like Autoworld is not doing boxes for the next round. This is really disappointing news - every AW car in my collection has a box. Without the box, collecting them makes less sense when it comes to displaying them. I imagine it's down to keeping the cost down. I'd personally pay more to get that box.

UGH! You're right. Disappointing news. The boxes are missing from the upcoming products in the new Round 2 November 2019 Product Spotlight video.

I really liked the boxes and how the cars fit inside them with the plastic pieces. They'll save a few pennies on non-diecast costs, but they'll lose something more from a marketing standpoint. It will get that much harder for passive consumers to differentiate between the Round 2 brands. Unfortunate.

Wonder if the price will drop?
Due to the recent budget cuts,
the rising cost of electricity, gas, and oil, plus the
current state of the economy, the light at the end
of the tunnel has been turned off.

Prices never drop because of something less than before.

Without boxes, more units can fit in a case creating less volume for mass shipping.
I dont collect the boxes anyway although feel for those who do.

American buyers are fixated on blister packs and carded toys.

In Japan, Tomica does fine with a box only.

All the new Asian brands do fine with a box / display box only.

And you can fit a lot of units in a case when it's boxes only.

I collect what I like, and I like what I collect.

I am an American who really dislikes blister packs. For me, the packaging is part of the entire product experience, and boxes display really well with the cars. Blister packs do not display as well, and even worse if you chose to liberate the car, which I prefer to do. Ultimately, I'm in this hobby for the cars. However, I am done with AW if the boxes are not part of the deal. I have bought every boxed model they have made, and having the toys either loose and boxless, or in the blister pack, is not an option for me.

As American buyer, I totally agree with you even though you were speaking of the majority of American buyers especially those diehard Hot Wheels collectors...lol

I think box only would work best especially the display box version. They're easier to store too.

That's a great way to display them, Paul.

I like the boxes, too. Not every AW came with a box though. The basic and the "Licensed" model didn't have them.

Major bummer. I love the boxes. I’ll be more selective with my purchases.

Personally, I wouldn't mind. I support whetever necessary for AW to increase their output.

But I understand people's disappointment. Also now the package looks less 'beefy'.

I personally don't care one way or the other. I have all of the boxes, but they're just taking up space until I can get shelves put up to display my cars. Until then, the cars just sit in Jammers and the boxes are in their own big box. They would have a hard time putting that current Ford pickup they introduced in the November video in a box that would fit into the blister, so maybe that's one reason they're eliminating the boxes. Just a thought.
