  • Attn Photobucket Users

I just tried to view the full-size version of a pic I saw in the HW thread. The link was to Photobucket, where a pop-up told me I must disable my ad blocker to see the pic.

    This I will not do.

All Photobucket users: Be aware that anyone using an ad blocker will not be able to see your full-size pix without disabling the ad blocker. We ad blocker users tend to avoid doing that. So, if you want your images to be viewable by everyone in all their glory, I suggest you dump Photobucket.

    Jus' sayin'.

    Many thanx.

I'd recommend ImageShack. I can't remember how much a year costs though.

There are no adds here so Im not sure why add blocker is even needed.
I have a paid subscription to PB so I wont be dumping anything.

I dumped photo bucket quite a while ago. I found it wasn't very user friendly. I went to Flickr after that, but I don't use any hosting sites anymore. I upload directly from my computer & never have a problem.

I was just giving a heads up to any PB users who didn't know but might want to. If you don't care that your images cannot be seen in full size by others using ad blockers, no problem.

I go to a lot more webtoob places than here, and I doubt I'm the only one. News sites and blogs, for instance, so I need an ad blocker. ANY-thing that tells me to turn it off before I can view content is shunned.

I dumped PB too, and also upload images to this site directly, as I did on Swifty's.

              Thanks

I'm not shunning YOU, 69ch, just Photobucket!

Btw, I didn't say the images couldn't be seen at all, but that they couldn't be seen in full resolution without clicking on them, which takes the viewer to PB. That's when the ad block blocker pops up.

I don't have a dog in this hunt, but I have noticed that a lot of older PB images have now been blurred and a big watermark over them making them practically useless.
The image file limits have been reset. Upper limits now are 100,000 when we have some images that exceed 5,000,000. I've set the pixels for no more than 1000 across the longest side, so if you resize to that all should be well. (The limits are larger than what I typically use, and my images turn out just fine, so I know it shouldn't be a problem)

                  Thank you for your understanding.

Thanks for the clarification. In other words, this has been an important public
announcement alerting members that if they post images here hosted by PB,
you will not be viewing them because the add blocker has deemed them inferior.
                    Thanks for the heads up.

Uh, no. I'm saying that anyone using an ad blocker will not be able to see a pic stored on Photobucket at its full resolution without turning off their ad blocker. Other PB users (though apparently not you, 69ch) may not have been aware of that.

It has nothing to do with the inferiority or superiority of the pic. (An ad blocker doesn't judge the quality of a photo.) And as I said, though a down-sampled version of the pic will appear in the DG post, other PB users (again, not you, 69ch) might prefer that their images be viewable at full resolution to everyone. So they might want to change image hosts. Or not. It was just a suggestion.

That's also useful info, jt3. Thank you.

It's amazing what a kerfuffle can result from just posting a simple warning.

And btw, the warning is not about me or 69ch. It is about Photobucket.

Jt3, Ive noticed the same thing with the blurry watermarked images from PB.

Guy, you can tell your adblockers not to block ads on specific sites, eg this one. It's not turning the adblocker off, it's whitelisting sites.
I have adblock plus and ublock origin. They are both disabled for Diecastgarage, and enabled for pretty much everywhere else I go.

Yes, I do know about whitelisting individual sites, but it is Photobucket that is making the demand, not Diecastgarage. This happens when clicking on an image that appears in a post on Diecastgarage which is hosted on PB. Photobucket will not show the full-resolution image without whitelisting their site. That is--of course--so they can then assail the user with a barrage of ads.

Personally, the prospect of having my screen cluttered with ads squelches any desire I might have had to see a pic, inspiring as that pic may be. Given the popularity of ad blockers, there must be many others who feel the same way.

I really didn't mean to kick up a fracas with this. It was just a friendly heads-up. Sorry if I offended anyone.
