... that this '49 Buick has undergone some major surgery.

Racing Champions cut this one down to make it perfect for people who like their world down low and letter-boxed.

"Must feel like bein' in a fortress in there, kid."

Definitely a much different feel than my '95 Civic, Officer.

      ... in a taxi!

It was a surprise when we happened on this Ford Crown Victoria taxi by... MotorMax? Yeah, I think it's by them. It carries an ad for a "MotorMax Steakhouse" on its roof. Sign says "American Graffiti" on the other side.

      "That may be significant, kid."

True, officer. And I think it was found at a train meet. Or not. Maybe... Wally's?

"Yer not sure of anything about this one, are ya, kid?"

I'm sure I like it, Officer. And I'm sure the C+D System needs it. Especially since that Golden Wheels Checker began falling apart.

        ... maybe in a wagon?

This 1979 Chrysler LeBaron station wagon is another of our very few MotorMax models. From the American Graffiti "Moments in Time" series, it came set inside its own storefront diorama.

"The back lot wall of headquarters is the only dio-whatsit we need here, kid."

Just as we always show it, Officer.

          ... at a train meet.

This MotorMax 1982 Dodge Aries K car is also from their American Graffiti series. Aside from the oversized wheels and tires it's a pretty good representation of a car that has been recommended for use as a garden planter (Red Green).

"These MotorMax folks seem to have a problem getting grills on straight, kid."

Yes, Officer, "grill trouble" is a recurring issue with MotorMax. The LeBaron wagon from last week had that, plus "bumper trouble".

... somewhere... else. That Bert has been to.

The Volkswagen VW30 visits Bert once again, this time in a nice, bright, cheery red from Malibu International.

"MI didn't put a rear window in it either, kid."

They're dedicated to prototypical accuracy, Officer.

              "Well, I'm dedicated to this..."

              • I wonder where I've seen that one before...
The image file limits have been reset. Upper limits now are 100,000 when we have some images that exceed 5,000,000. I've set the pixels for no more than 1000 across the longest side, so if you resize to that all should be well. (The limits are larger than what I typically use, and my images turn out just fine, so I know it shouldn't be a problem)

                Thank you for your understanding.

... if one has the proper equipment.

Which we don't have anymore. This early '90s Thunderbird by Ertl came with an attachment which allowed viewing of the images within it, which are back-lit by light entering the frosty windows.

"So that's why they're all fogged up."

Right, Officer. The images told kind of a story, IIRC, making the car sort of like a View-Master without the image clarity or the 3D.

"Wouldn't it be more fun to just play with the car as a... I dunno... a car?"

As a kid I would have thought so, Officer.

Yeah, not one of the better gimmicks to come around.

HW had similar, I'm drawing a blank on what they called them but they had a slide inside. (Boy, that reference is dated now, innit?) Oh - Scene Machine. But the photo slide was prone to deteriorating in sunlight.

Those are called Speed Strips. They even have a police car. A Ford Taurus no less:

"I s'pose the pictures inside this one are different than the pictures in the T-Bird, huh?"

Officer, I can't remember ever viewing the pictures in either car. But Ertl rendered it pretty well, and it is a Camaro, so home it came.

Besides, I think it was on sale.

"No surprise there, kid. But I think it's bigger than 1/64."

Being Ertl, at the time I expected it to be right on the 1/64 money. But you're probably correct, Officer.
