I know enough about these to get into trouble, so knowledgeable correction or elaboration is encouraged.
For the longest time my searches for Aoshima turned up models with the fancy fender flares and air dams and other body mods, I believe the style is called Grachan (Grand Champion?). These would have been fairly early in the "Tuner" scene, first half of the 2000s. These seem to be fairly popular still, and as most come from Japan shipping alone adds a good bit to the price, which I typically see listed from around $15 US at the low end to $40 plus on the high end, depending on the desirability of the model, so it is quite easy to go over $50 for one model. Build quality is on par with Kyosho and Konami.
I know these came with a removeable blister cover, and the whole was placed inside a box, with the information in Japanese (as one would expect). I'm not sure if these were sold blind box or not.
In my more recent searches, I've been finding more tame, mundane models being sold as Aoshima, at far less expensive prices other than the shipping, but they don't appeal to me as much. Frankly, I'm not personally a big fan of this style (although it does hearken back to the European cafe racers of the late 1970s), but on the models I am more familiar with such as this Datsun Z I can appreciate it.
