  • Bending my own "5pack purchasing" rules

My rule is, if I don't like at least 3 models in a 5pack, I'm not buying it. This shall help accumulating unwanted models. In the past I wasn't as selective as I am today, as a result I bought stuff I didn't really like.

When I saw this 5pack today, I knew I was in trouble, since the VW was the only one I wanted.

    And that's why:

On closer inspection at home, I found the Ford Transit looks quite good too, painted front lights, nice wheels and there's a mini bike loaded in the back.

And then there's the eStar electric van.
The first release of this model in Matchbox livery I didn't buy. Now that I am holding it in my hands, I like it. It feels heavy, love the paint and wheels and the tempa on the panels is flawless. I'm impressed with the quality.

So, lucky me. Bent the rules and ended up with three new models.

Tow truck and bus will go.

A nice detail I found on the bus:

I had not noticed that neat little detail on the bus - nice touch Matchbox! I, too, bought this set just for the VW - and put the rest in a sale post. Let's face it - every so often "our collecting rules" are meant to be broken!"

I collect any and everything Matchbox miniature sized, and so for me I am busy trying to get the alternate interior variation on the eStar Electric Van, and have a bit of a soft spot for the City Bus. It was designed by Michael Heralda back in 2009 and the little bit of text under the door was pointed towards me.

It originally was a part of the 2010 basic range, except was white with chrome wheels. The new one is grey with grey wheels. I love these nods to past models, and although the VW was a huge nod to a very far gone model (a model from before my time as I don't go earlier than Superfast) the City Bus was a nod to the more recent past too.

Plus I love the Transit Connect. I have found it in jet black and a light charcoal like black. I think it looks amazing and is my favourite model of the pack.

Finally found this 5 pack. Like many, I only wanted the vw. MBX doesn't seem to particularly well represented in the stores near me any more.
Some don't seem to stock them at all.

I broke my rules with the service crew set - to get the VW Van. With the service squad I took two of them - the gold anniversary van and the park service vehicle. Did the same with the newest sets to get the Hudson Hornet Police Car and the Boone County Sheriff's Mustang.

I was very tempted by the service set, but I'm not really sure why.
I think it was the overall aesthetics of the set. The colours were attractive and the general shapes of the vehicles were a similar boxy shape. It just appealed to me
I like the little pink dunebuggy, hopefully it will show up on its own.

Years ago I would pass on a five set if I only wanted one or two models from it, as time went buy I realized I ended up buying the wanted models down the road for a few buck, more times then not I bought them online and ended up spending $5.00 or more for the one model I wanted, so in recent years I’ve just pulled the trigger and bought the set for the wanted model(s) right from the start.

Not to be contrary, but I like ALL of the trucks in the five pack set. That's why I purchased two of the packs.
