since i am perfect example of a point and shoot camera person.i am happy just to have it back to where i know what i am doing...

Taking pictures inside the house with existing room light is ALWAYS a crap shoot with ANY camera. Try using se outdoor light for better brightness and balance,

Go to your Scene dial and choose the food setting. I have it on my Nikon P830 and it takes pictures of the diecast as it really looks. I left a link for you that might help. A lot of times You Tube can help also. Just put in your camera Nikon D5100 and I'm sure you will come up with a step for step. Hope this helps.👍 1Leave a comment:

Have you tried adjusting the white balance in the cameras menu?
on my camera it s under menu>shooting menu> whitebalance > select an option such as flouro or incandescent
