  • Buby (Argentina) M-B Type 1114 tipper

    Shifting and sifting some inventory last night and came upon this. Found in a box with "slightly less interesting" models. No record of "when/where/why/how much." I'm guessing it was obtained in the last 5-7 years and probably didn't cost much ($10 max.? - who knows). Looking for verification of the Buby part number. Found some photos online, and the box was included (see last two photos). The turquoise example is actually has "1112" on the base, unlike mine, which says "1114." The box for the turquoise 1112 says model 10. I'm hoping to verify that is also the p/n for the Type 1114 that I have, or find out what the correct p/n is. Any Buby experts out there? This is the only Buby in the collection. Glad I found it (again). It will migrate up in the storage hierarchy. Thanks for looking and for any info. you may have.

    This next one is not mine. It is marked 1112, and the Buby model is 10. Is the Type 1114 also Buby number 10?

    THAT is VERY NICE!!! I had two good opportunities to buy Buby. One in 1982 in a model car sales catalog I subscribed to, but never bought any, and again (when I did) at a local store that had them as new old stock for $4 each! Unfortunately no Ford Falcon or Chevrolet Nova I wanted. Two great castings, adding to this one. Thank you for posting this, Jeff.

      Awesome find for your collection - of course that is true of any Buby model one might come across these days. I had one with a dark green cab in my collection for many years. I will assume my box had 1112 on it as I had it cataloged as 1112 - I honestly don't recall ever looking on the chassis frame for a number. I am trying to remember, though, if Buby used this Mercedes for other models like they did the Chevrolet casting.

              Quite an old thread, but it fits...

              Both designitions "1112" and "1114" are prototypical. The Mercedes numbering system has been the same for all trucks since the 60s:

              1112 -> 11 t truck with 120 hp
              1114 -> 11 t truck with 140 hp

              Both engines were available for this truck, so no error here.

              Although "1114" is on the model, Buby referred to it as "1112" on the boxes and in the catalogue. First, Buby used nos. 1-30 for their models and came up with nos.1011-1120 later. The Mercedes "Volcador" had the number 10. I did not find any hint it got a 4-digit number later.

              When I worked in Buenos Aires in 2008-2010, I did not see the original Rundhauber dump trucks anymore. Most of them were converted buses.

                    I guess this is a brazilian built later model, note the different grille. The only Rundhauber I ever saw in Argeninta with this grille had a brazilian license plate.
