Hot on the trail of the AUTOCULT Yamaha A550X that I received a few days ago, comes this AVENUE 43: TOYOTA EX-1.

Dear Tomytec,
Please make this in 1/64!
I would love to see a Tomica Limited Vintage Concept Car series!

Avenue 43 is a new brand on the market for model cars, which is exclusively distributed by AutoCult. As the brand name already implies, unique models with a historic valuable background made of resin in scale 1:43 only will find its (parking) place along the "Avenue 43" in future.
The perfect complement to the AutoCult product range.

Designed to show how Japan's new highways could be used, the EX-I was a 2-seater concept sports car shown at the 1969 Tokyo Motor Show. Styling was similar to the Celica released the next year with more emphasis placed on aerodynamics. A roof mounted spoiler was raised and lowered electrically to increase stability at high speed. The interior was ergonomically designed with a wrap around console so that all switches were within easy reach of the driver. Twin exhausts and bonnet scoops hinted at an engine larger than normally used on Japanese cars.

Check out this groovy two-seat sport coupe from Toyota, one of three "EX" concept cars the company did in the late 1960s. This version made its debut at the Tokyo auto show in 1969 and, according to the press release that came with this photograph, "is styled specifically for long-distance driving at high speed." We like that. Although you can easily see something of the Toyota 2000 GT in its slim shape, there's also a bit of the then-upcoming Celica sport coupe to be found in this package.
There's no talk of powertrain, but the EX-1 packed numerous high-tech goodies, such as a rear-deck spoiler that raised and lowered electrically. The interior featured a driver-centric wraparound dash and instrument panel design, and there were other electronic advances. The EX-1's design is so lithe and well proportioned, the onlooker could mistake it as being of Italian descent, and we wouldn't have been surprised at all if it had worn Alfa Romeo badging.
