Vintage Majorettes

The majority (and so far, all) of Majorettes I find at the flea market (and that's the few I did) date to the 1980s and 1990s; when Ames carried them in my area, and to a lesser extent, I learned here Kaybee did occasionally as well. Occasionally on eBay, from American sellers, I do see these very early models at a good price, but not often. Most have to come from overseas.

Would all 'MADE IN FRANCE" Majorettes be 'vintage'Mr. Bowtie
Past President of the Diecast Liberation Movement & maybe possibly a member of the "Black With Flames" Classification Committee (if such an entity exists and has a classification committee) Which I deny ever being part of.

Back in the late '70's Majorette could be bought at Toys R Us, Children's Palace, Kiddie City - all big box toy stores in the day as well as many variety, drug stores, and hobby stores. Many of my Majorette in those days came from those various sources when I lived in St. Paul, MN and into the early '80's when I moved downriver to St. Louis. Yes, I think in this day and age most all of the Made in France models could be considered on the vintage side.

James - Majorettes continued production in France till at least the late 1980s which means the newest ones that were still made there are 30 year old. I remember Walgreens or Osco still hade the French made models in small scale up to at least 1990 or a bit later when I was a kid. Unsure if I'd qualify them as vintage . . .. but that's up for debate.

It seems I read the original Majorette went bankrupt in 1990, and purchased by another toy company then, so that might have been when they fazed production out of France, like Craftymore, I found French made models into the 90's, I started collecting in '96, and even then Albertsons grocery still had some, granted they were old issues, they didn't sell many at twice the price of a HW's.😃
Personally I might qualify MiFrance as vintage, considering some Regular wheel Matchbox were less than 30 years old in '96 when I started, and I thought of them as vintage then, or at least really old.Doug
