  • Matchbox Gift Set - Target 1992

From what I understand this was a Christmastime gift set found at Target stores back in the early 90's, I guess it was similar to how Walmart has those boxed toys in generic boxes around the Holidays, I picked this up 2nd hand at a toy show some years ago, so retail was before my time of collecting.

The models all appear to be regular 1-75 series offerings issued during that time period, so no exclusives that I'm aware of off hand.

It's a neat set since it includes the carrycase and cutout play pieces along with a nice variety of models.

That is a nice set that you have. I remember those play sets - most of the time I did not buy them since they were not exclusive models and wasn't really into wanting the storage cases at that time.

Nice. I have a few of those. Too bad MBX does not market an official carry case these days.

Nice set for sure. Interesting mix of models - new stuff blended with Lesney era Superfast models. The 90's turned out to be an interesting period for some unusual castings.

Neat!!!! I've seen that case for sale at toy shows, never knew it was from a set.

Yeah Jeff, I really don't understand it either, I suspect they would sell as parents would likely get them for the kids to keep them organized, but then again cars are such an inexpensive toy that parents might be figuring they are just throw away items like everything else in society, so junior can just toss them in his toybox, no need for him to learn to keep them nicer longer.....I got off the track here, so anyway, I wish they made them at least in limited releases for collectors .

Thanks Scotty, I'm not sure it was exclusive to this set or anything, it may have been available on its own as well.

The models aren't made in the USA are they?

No, the tiny print on back of box says "Vehicles and tray made in China". I'm not sure what the tray is they refer too, but I think it is the white plastic holder display for the models
