  • Some new apparatus in my firehouse...plus a sneak peak of an upcoming ornament

First, here's a sneak from Hallmark of this year's Fire Brigade issue:

1996 Ford F-800 pumper, coming in July to a dealer near you (if you're lucky enough to have a Hallmark store near you...) (Image 'borrowed' from Hallmark's page: https://www.hallmark.com/ornaments/k...99QXR9254.html)
Out of curiosity, how common is a live reel that unreels at a 90-degree angle? Most fire engines in my experience have reels oriented so the hose comes off without the 90-degree bend. I've seen models with ones like this, but can't think of many, other than rear-mounted reels, that pull in a different orientation from the truck...front-to-back.

Next, the latest Siku fire apparatus (though the first release of one of them is as a Police riot-control 'water cannon'):

These came in the mail Monday....over 30 days after the ebay estimated delivery date (due to the CoVid-19 policy of US Customs, where they essentially stopped packages from outside the USA getting into the USA--I think putting them in 14-day minimum quarantine to kill the virus on the plastic packaging. That's all I can think of for why these made it to US Customs but weren't released for a couple more weeks).

I still have 4 ebay purchases from overseas outstanding...at least one is estimated to arrive today. Haven't purchased another item from there until the shipping situation is improved. Canceled two orders when the seller informed me US Customs has essentially doubled the cost of shipping from foreign sellers...requiring an ADDITIONAL $27 shipping/handling (EXPRESS parcels only) if you want your package sooner than mid-summer. That would have caused me to add that $27 to the total price (with shipping) already paid if I wanted the item sometime soon.

The Siku models and the newest Hallmark fire engine are very nice. While I don' t do ebay I do trades and sales and buys from collectors in foreign countries and the whole shipping issue (both ways) has become a royal pain.

Nice Siku! The lower-end models I try to not collect, but they're getting better and better. We are also getting a proper ambulance in that lineup this year, not a panel or passenger van with a light bar.

The Hallmark ornament, will be a day one purchase. 1996 is my birth year. I bought my first Hallmark fire truck in our local mall for my eighteenth birthday in November, 2014 (Fishing River, Missouri GMC). These are pretty common trucks around here, but commercial chassis, are, by far, not in scale. I know of an engine, tanker, and medium rescue that use this generation F-Series as their chassis I think, however, that this is one of the first in a long time that is not based on an actual truck or livery. Maybe the department involved pulled out? I have found 1996 Ford F-800/F-850 rigs, all of them Emergency One, and not a one is set up exactly like this. Seems it was a relatively even mix between top-mount and side mount. None had this hose reel setup, and most had deck guns. My plans are to letter this as one of the three trucks. Luckily, there's no striping, so all I have to detampo is the markings.

And we're getting a second emergency vehicle this year, in the form of a 2019 Dodge Charger Pursuit in a demo livery.

The Hallmark engine looks good! Here's hoping that it will match up well to other 1/64 (or thereabouts) models. I'm also loving the Charger that Cody posted, but I can't help but wonder about its size as well.

Sikus look nice also. Sorry to hear about the shipping delays, but all the mail centres are inundated with parcels from all over. Canada Post is three months behind for international orders, from what I've heard.

If I recall the Crown Vic that came out last year was closer to 1/43rd scale and my guess would be so would this Charger. I have liked that for the most part the fire engines, while meant as ornaments have mostly been around 1/64th scale and nicely detailed for an ornament. Fortunately I still have a Hallmark store in Bismarck and their is an independent drug store/variety store that seems to be a Hallmark agent as they also carry many of the ornaments. And if someone is in need of the ambulance they issued last year, I still do have one extra.

PJ, I have seen a few rigs over the years with the booster mounted 90 degrees from the side of the rig, usually they have one or two guides that direct the hose to be rear deployed and the nozzle is stored at the rear, the most common place these where employed was by FDNY back in the day.

The ornament is a winner and I'm sure my daughter will surprise me with this years addition like she has every year since the series started.

And Cody, thanks for making many of us here feel old!
