I see a number of other issues that give me pause, but the money issue alone is sufficient for me to take their info with a grain of salt.
No media outlet is entirely free from bias, but I wouldn't give in to baseless wishful thinking just because it's what we'd prefer to happen. We'd all prefer for this to be over soon and for the economic impact to be reduced, but convincing ourselves that it's likely based on nothing more than preference isn't going to lead to that outcome.

It's not as though any experts are saying anything to suggest it's about to become a diminishing issue or that we're through the worst of it. There's one self-interested politician who's at times suggested it might be, but even his experts don't share that opinion. I guess really what I need to ask posters expressing that opinion is what exactly do you base your opinion on?

I'm not going to waste time trying to convince anyone; the next six weeks will make my case for me unfortunately.

Nor am I, I would never trust a single source but I'm also not going to link a dozen with the same statistics. Do you really think I'm basing my opinion off of a single website? Perhaps you only briefly and superficially research topics that are of interest to you, please don't project that on to me. I prefer to research extensively and only start drawing conclusions when trends emerge.

Experts on the topic of epidemiology most certainly exist, even if they don't have a large base of knowledge to work with in regards to this specific virus. Trying to dismiss the notion of expertise simply because they don't have as much information as they admit they would need to speak with greater certainty isn't exactly honest. Even if no one is perfectly informed there's certainly people better informed than you or I. It's worth paying attention to their opinions even if they will concede they'd like to have more information to work with.

Perhaps optimistic forecasts will prove accurate, but I wouldn't count on it.

As for importing to us, not likely. It is comparatively cheap to make and costs too much to ship halfway around the world...which would make it too costly for its intended purpose... There is a big Georgia-Pacific paper plant...including TP...about 30 miles from me in the town of Palatka Florida, along with hundreds of thousands of acres of planted pulpwood forests in the surrounding area adjacent to the Ocala National Forest.
Actually the sales associate made it sound like our Toilet Paper is made in China. A course I know they use Toilet Paper it was originally invented there. You misunderstood me. I'm not trying to be Central Intelligence here I'm just merely commenting.
Due to the recent budget cuts,
the rising cost of electricity, gas, and oil, plus the
current state of the economy, the light at the end
of the tunnel has been turned off.

              • House soon to be quiet again as we take our granddaughter back to mom and dad this afternoon. Her dad, our son, will be working at home part of the time so sounds like we might not have her here as often but glad we can be here to help them out - and of course, we do enjoy having her! She is good for us! Played ball with her yesterday for over an hour. Learning more about Paw Patrol and Bubble Guppies and yes - fun watching her doing her school work and painting and puzzles and Mickey waffles for breakfast. Oh yes, and that Peppa Pig is a very British pig!

If one posts misinformation one should anticipate being corrected. If this hurts your feelings, grow a thicker skin or make yourself informed before posting your opinion. If you can't stand your opinion being criticized you can control that by not posting it. Once you voice your opinion others are entitled to do the same and if your opinion appears uninformed or misinformed you should anticipate having that pointed out. Considering you post your opinions quite frequently you should have already figured out that invites discussion on those opinions.

                      • I happened to be thinking about the meaning of hope today, and figured I'd jot down my thoughts here

Hope is a wonderful thing, it's good to share it when you have some to offer about what concerns your friend, it even gives peace of mind to people of faith to a future beyond this life, and when we have great fears about anything unknown in this world, it of course is good to learn what we are able to understand about what might be frightening us, but isn't it hope that we are looking for.

There is an old saying, and I'm sure I'm messing up somebodies words here, but it is much to the same point as this....

Man can live about 40 days without food.
He can live about 4 days without water
He can live about 4 minutes without air
But he can't live 4 seconds without hope.

I think a lot of the people stacking their garages, and basements full of toilet paper, and other such supplies are in great fear, not that there is anything wrong with being prepared for a situation, but to me it seems this desperation we see with such an abundance of supplies for something so yet unknown, might be bringing comfort for lack of feeling hope.

I don't know if it makes much sense, but my mind dwells on odd thoughts sometimes.

                        Doug

The same thing that makes you think yours count. Are you still butthurt that I had the audacity to make the case that something you've said is most likely wrong?

                              • OK....I was afraid this would head in this direction. We are all here to chill out and have fun, so I think best, at least for the time being, to drop the subject of the virus and who is and who isn't...especially the name calling.

This is a highly charged emotional time for everyone. I don't think we need to exacerbate the problem at this site....there are plenty of other sites where that is welcome. From here out until the climate (or zeitgeist if you prefer) calms down, I will be deleting any posts dealing with the virus unless it is something constructive or uplifting. This is a spur of the moment judgment call on my part, but it is looking like that is the most effective way to deal with this right now. Existing posts will stand so there is no claim of favoritism, but from here out all such posts will be removed.
