  • M2 VW Dual Cab Racing Transporter

When starting to post on Hobby Talk one of my first member friendships was with Z28HO. Sam is a retired professional model builder and provided me with several excellent fabrication and modification techniques to use with my customs projects. Our friendship continued after moving over to Swifty's and today while I have moved onto Diecast Garage. Although Sam has not joined DG, we still share model building ideas and projects.

Sam recently noticed some photos of an actual VW Dual Cab Racing Transporter plus some VW Porsche Race Car Transporters and suggested that we start a joint venture custom project to build a 1/64 VW Dual Cab Porsche Transport.

He decided to use two M2 VW Dual Cab pickup models as bases. Two flat sections had to be joined to make a flat bed long enough to hold a Porsche race car. My job was to obtain and apply a set of 1/64 scale Porsche Renndienst (Racing Service) decals from Patto's Place Australia.

Sam sent me a finished painted red custom M2 VW Dual Cab Racing Transporter.

My first mod was to carefully scrape the red paint off of the VW logo on the front which created a very good silver VW logo. The second mod was to cut two small strips of thin 1000 grit sand paper to create the drive mats on the flat bed section for the tires of a Porsche race car. The final mods were application of the Porsche Renndienst & special Porsche Crests (found these from an old 1:43 kit) decals. Here are the results.

A red 1/64 100% HW Collectibles Porsche 550 Spyder #2 race car model was added to complete this custome M2 VW Dual Cab Porsche Reendienst project.

    Great work!

Let Sam know this place is basically Swifty's Garage jr...without all the TT hassles.
The image file limits have been reset. Upper limits now are 100,000 when we have some images that exceed 5,000,000. I've set the pixels for no more than 1000 across the longest side, so if you resize to that all should be well. (The limits are larger than what I typically use, and my images turn out just fine, so I know it shouldn't be a problem)

    Thank you for your understanding.

Wow, that's a wonderful joint project!

Let us know if you guys ever decide to open up shop for commissions.

toyotageek - Thanks for the positive comment. These projects are "labors of love" for our joint enthusiasm of custom model building. The time and effort would be far too much for commission work.
