  • Today at the Garage…

After showcasing the regular wheels turquoise Matchbox Lincoln Continental (manufactured 1967-69) outside the showroom earlier in the week…

…here is the Superfast version (manufactured from 1970-71) for comparison.

As already mentioned, in my humble opinion, the regular wheels model is awesome – great details, perfect stance and pretty accurate to the real thing!

The thin wheels Superfast version (which I don’t have) used the same casting, I think…?

But when it came to fitting the full size, fat Superfast wheels, Matchbox BUTCHERED the wheel arches of that lovely casting!!

A new base plate was also used.

Again – this is just my view, but the updated Superfast Continental casting was all kindsa wrong, with a stance more akin to the AMC Eagle than a big, luxury vehicle.

Also, apologies for some of these photos being a bit out of focus. Damn phone camera had a mind of its own today – at least, the focusing did.

    • I would agree that Matchbox really got it right with the regular wheels' version of the Continental. I have the blue version as well as the mint green one (that never had the fun of carrying a crayon in the trunk). Even though in those days I thought of myself as a completist, I passed on the superfast version - didn't like those wheels or the stance - or for that matter the color.

Well, the pigs are back after taking their new Max Steel roadsters on a several day long road test.

          • With the pigs keeping quiet about what happened, speculation is rife amongst the garage employees about what could have happened.

The pigs are all known to be highly skilled drivers, so it is very strange for something like this to have occurred.

            It’s weird.

I would like to have a thin-wheel Superfast version one day. From the photos I've seen online, they look really good with the original casting and narrow superfast wheels.

              One day..

                LMAOff!
Due to the recent budget cuts,
the rising cost of electricity, gas, and oil, plus the
current state of the economy, the light at the end
of the tunnel has been turned off.

Tootsietoys remind me a bit of the toy cars I used to play with at Infant School back in the UK in early 70's - they were just shells and wheels too. But a bit bigger (probably 1/32) and made out of brightly coloured rubber, or similar.
