A bit of

for those three classic Hot Wheels. Those were some neat vintage cars that Hot Wheels offered - wish they would do some more! Hopefully the little pigs will simply admire them and not take off for a ride out into the woods to thumb their nose at the Big Bad Wolf!

Today at the garage…

We join the pigs part way through a very tricky whammy bar adjustment procedure on this Kaido House 510.

The tolerances involved are so tight! This is really testing the pigs’ knowledge and skill.

Yes – time to take a break guys…

This little piggy goes on a quick ride to clear his head.

This little piggy is suffering from trotter-cramp (a common complaint amongst pig mechanics) and goes to lie down in the back of his truck.

This little piggy decides to make a start on the next job – fixing a tailgate strut on this old Passat.

ACK!! Maybe he should take a break too.

But soon the pigs are back at work.

Hehe – they did it! What tolerance did they achieve on that whammy bar? Plus or minus 0.00065 Umlauts! I know, that’s hard to believe. Far better than the factory setting – the owner is going to notice a marked improvement in both handling and performance!

Having saved the day yet again, the pigs rip out for an extended lunch at Porky’s Beer ‘n’ Swill. Which probably means we won’t see them again until Tuesday.

Fresh from a little nap, here comes the boss!

“Nice job pigs! Right, time to get the owner back in…see how much we can gouge him…”

Then the boss has a better idea – what if he were to spirit the Datsun away to one of the Eaton’s chop shops? Quick respray, new rims and numbers, then he could re-sell it out on the lot and make a fortune!

A few hours later…is that time enough for the chop shop to turn this around? Of course it is because remember…it’s all make believe. The owner comes back in to pick up his pride and joy…

“What do you mean you don’t know what I’m talking about? I dropped it off right here this morning!”

What does it look like…..? Slammed Datsun 510 estate in Kaido House livery. In fact it looks EXACTLY like that one behind you...except it was blue and…”

“Hey…just a minute!...”

Umlauts? Probably metric, right?

You know the problem with those close tolerance adjustments is that they can be knocked out so easily.

Rediscovering ancient technology! Or at least, 20 year old technology.

My Side Kick from around 2000, and a Slide Kick that I picked up last night.

Often wondered why you would need a seat that slides out the side of a vehicle?

Certainly if one of your passengers farted, then it would be handy to be able to swing out into the breeze for a bit of fresh air? But these are both single seaters.

Might help with parking and reversing. Or maybe it’s just an easier way for ageing drivers to get in and out?

Forgive me, but cars like the Sidekick are what always kept me on the Matchbox side of the collecting ledger. Even as a kid I had no interest in that level of fantasy model.

With a few exceptions, realism was always where it was at for me. I'd love to have a grocery-getter version of that Siku Passat (Dasher). Just how I roll.

Thanks guy64 - yep, metric.

You are right...the setup is so delicate that you run over anything, such as a chicken, and poof! Your whammy bar is way out again.

The beak especially can cause problems.

You know it's strange, they did actually dump him way up in the NWT. Blindfolded him and spun him around before driving away and leaving him behind a bear trap.

But he found his way back to the garage.

We suspect the bears befriended him and helped him.

As a kid I was also only interested in playing with models of cars that I saw on the road or on the TV.

But nowadays, as a so called "adult", I do like the fantasy models as well as the regular stuff.

Yep, that Passat is a really nice old model from SIKU. It would be awesome to see a full sized one out on the road again, but that's not likely to happen around here. Though I expect there are many still doing grocery duty in Europe.

Today at the gas bar…

This beautiful Buick Roadmaster followed me home the other night.

Being a Greenlight, it had to undergo a vigorous inspection at the store before it went into my trolley.

But have to say that I can’t really see any flaws on it – even the hood ornament is on straight. Amazing job Greenlight!!

Some especially nice detailing going on underneath too.

My Vector Avtech WX-3 was one of the many models I rediscovered during the recent Hot Wheels reorganization.

Great model and I especially like the colour.

Actually, Larry Wood's "Sidekick" dates back to 1972!

Tho' the version you have is from 2000. Did you know there are no fewer that ten HW designs with the word "side" as the first half of their name?

I'm usually fascinated by asymmetrical designs (Go, Schindler!), so naturally I had to have just one.

Bert has seen our 2001 "Postal Express" version, and he still wonders where they would put any mail...
