  • WalMart threw me another curve-ball the other night…

There, hanging all on its lonesome on the peg with nothing else around, was this yellow Alfa Stradale from the Exotic Envy series. So I snapped it up!

    Classic WalMart.

I love the HW 1969 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale casting, and was really happy to get the yellow one to go with my red version!

No idea about the Exotic Envy series – whether it’s new, or was released a while back, but don’t think there’s anything else in that set that would interest me. Even the McLaren Speedtail which, in my humble opinion, looks kinda ugly in real life.

Anyway, as I was saying, it is…AAAAAARRRRGGHHHH!!!!! No! You guys…!!

Sorry about that – the pigs think it’s hilarious to defecate on classic sports cars. Let me tell you, it gets even worse when the “Head Mechanic” joins in as well.

    Quick, reprimand that pig!

It has been pointed out that the scale of those turds is way off, as compared to the scale of the pigs and their..."ahem"...rear ends.

In my defense, I hand crafted those turds for a post last year about the white, plastic Matchbox horses. Since then, I've simply been too lazy to make more scale - correct faeces, or even to do research into their correct appearance.

The pigs couldn't care less - they're happy to play along. It's all good publicity to them.

So there you go - another intellectually stimulating post from Mr. Quog.

But like Popeye used to say..." I yam what I yam!" And you can't argue with that.

          Thanks guy64!

Actually, at least around these parts, the further it drops below freezing, the less snow we get. The worst is when it is just around zero degrees and the snow comes down deep, soggy and heavy to shovel.

As a kid back in the UK, I used to love what little snow we got each winter, but now after living closely with it for the last twenty-odd years, I can safely say that I HATE it!

Shovelling your driveway and sidewalk and digging out your vehicle in the dark every morning before heading out to work. Then slipping and sliding down barely plowed roads whilst keeping an eye out for yahoos in their big, brand new SUVs who think they are invincible because they have AWD and a cartoon bull bar on the front.

In my humble opinion, the only possible scenario in which snow could be considered calming or relaxing would be if you are sat in a cozy chalet half way up a Swiss mountainside. In front of a roaring fire you sip on a big glass of Johnnie Walker. Meanwhile, out the window you see the snow gently falling and settling into deep drifts...

With some poor, hired schmuck, frozen snot-cicle hanging off his nose, trying to shovel the walkways!

          I could handle that.

Mayhaps probably I should have said "Snow is Nature's way of telling you Summer really is over..." Might'a been more pertinent.

Yeah, my fond memories of snow are from my single-digits childhood, when it was Dad who had to do all that laborious labor to dig out the car. I've already mentioned our family excursion into a windshield-high snow bank, which required the services of a tow truck to coax the voracious white stuff to let loose of the family '56 Chevy..

That was a bit scary for a kid, as snow experiences go. But mostly, for me, snow meant "fun".

Then--as an adult--I had to drive on the mountain roads of Twin Peaks during the winter. Mm, winding, narrow mountain roads, covered with snow (and ice)... in an El Camino, with no chains... Can you say "dicey"?

If the ground has to be covered with snow, I'd rather go sledding. At least until I get a real Snow Trac.

Thanks for the link and the memories guy64. That must have been scary as heck for a small kid like you say!

My father-in-law, who was born and brought up in Saskatchewan, then spent most of his life in B.C., had many tales of motoring through vicious winter weather, usually in nothing more than rear wheel drive American iron, sometimes with chains, sometimes without. Though at one point him and his dad owned a tiny British Austin. That must have been quite something to drive along snowy winter logging roads at -40!

Easy to forget how difficult that must have been, now we live in an age of computer controlled AWD systems, and incredible winter tires.

              • Today on scenes from a garage…

Picked up some new Regular Wheels HW last night.

Here they are chatting about the price of dog food with a couple of friends in the back of an old Matchbox Mercury Commuter. Pretty sure one is a Boxer. Not sure about the other one.

The new HW Jay Leno’s Garage set landed at our local WalMart recently, and I picked out the 300SL and the Countach.
